No ****. The point is that USMC M-60s did just as well in Desert Storm as US Army M-1s. The Marines could've beat the Iraqis on their own and saved the US taxpayer a fair bit of money.

LMFAO, the M60 was a ****ing antique hand-me-down that met antiquated weight limits for the jarheads amphib ops. After Desert Saber, they got the **** rid of them and upgraded to M1s. The ONLY reason the Marines carried the fight into the Kuwait City airport and port area is USAF had been tank plinking for weeks and the Iraqi units in that area were heavily degraded second line units with inferior equipment even by Iraqi standards. Yes, it is true that the combined force of the US Air Force and US Marine Corps kicked the Iraqi Army out of Kuwait while the US Army was dicking around out in the desert. The Army had one ****ing job--close the backdoor on the Iraqis so they couldn't finish running away from the Marines--and they ****ed it up.

"Never assume away the capabilities of the enemy" - Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf. M60s would have had a much tougher time against IRG units and incurred significantly more casualties, as well as depending more on tactical aviation support. The M60 didn't "do well" as much as it was placed against heavily weakened opposition so it didn't end up as another of a long line of US tank designs affectionaly known as purple heart boxes.
