Since the most active AQ development and recruitment has been from Yemen and Somalia across the Sahel to the Med and Atlantic coasts for years now, you're finally right for a change.

    • So I guess now we're going to pretend that capping Bin Laden is less important than killing some no-name jihadi in Mali, just so we don't have to admit the obvious fact that the SEALs are the star around which the rest of US SOF orbits? Ok...

      • OBL was the poster boy. He was no longer the predominant operational threat.

            • I read that OBL was still involved in a lot of the operations of Al Qaeda at the time of his death.

If you actually read the book by "Mark Owen" about the operation you get the sense that there isn't really much lingering rivalry between Delta and DEVGRU and members of each apparently regularly get cross-posted to the other unit when one needs a little more strength temporarily.

In all seriousness and in spite of what I've posted in this thread, branch rivalry is pretty dumb. It's my opinion that the branches should be unified and redundant non-combat arms MOSes combined as "purple trades" a la the Canadian Forces.

e: I wonder what MOS delta operators hold? Is it 19 series or 11 series? Is it just former rangers are 11A/Bs and former SF guys are 19-whatevers? The world may never know.

                  • Oh, I see how it is. Drake just has a stiffie for everything Canadian. That's why he picked the Leopard 2 as the best MBT instead of the Challenger 2 or the Merkava 4 (because god forbid he agree with someone and pick the M1A2 Abrams).
If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

The Merkava is a glorified IFV. The Challenger is obviously gay, since it's British.

                      • Leopard 2 is basically an Abrams with a diesel engine, although the Canadians have the old version.

If he really does have a pro-Canada stiffie he should be all over LAVs/Strykers (which are essentially the same vehicle, used by the Canadian Army, Australian Army, New Zealand Army, US Army, and USMC)

No. It has the ability to carry troops at the expense of most of its magazine. It is however also highly survivable in urban combat in addition to being capable in the Golan Heights. It has basically the same cannon as the M1A2, just Israeli-made.

Since when did you have a problem with gay? Of course, I won't disagree with hating something simply for being British.

Comparable effectiveness with higher fuel efficiency and a lower cost.

You got me; that's the real reason. **** the British.

                            • I thought the Namer was the Merkava IFV version?

                              Chally 2 still has a 105mm gun

And you can't dry a wet sleeping bag out in 15 seconds in the exhaust of a Leopard 2

Much lower speed however, and the nice thing about a gas turbine is you can run it off jet fuel, so you don't need different supply lines for tanks and helicopters.
