  • Ken throws a hissy fit about the words "client state." He's not against using money as influence. But the terminology is so scary. I understand. I withdraw the usage.

I maintain my position. The Americans have aid to give. There are strings attached. This should be one of them.

Strangelove thinks we shouldn't interfere with the Egyptian growth process. We are interfering in favour of the person being protested against. I agree: let's not interfere. The Egyptians aren't meeting their side of the deal. They're preaching war and killing protesters. They're not giving Americans access to a member of a terrorist militia. Let's not send the Egyptians aid this year at all.

    Damn neocon chickenhawk Egyptian protester.

"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

I have a problem with a mindset that led to us propping up brutal dictators for decades. The idea of returning to that kind of thinking is frankly mindboggling.
