Yeah, the firing is SOP, but "deemed false" isn't real reassuring in light of the LAPD's illustrious history.

You line up the shot. You don't take the shot and a dozen more, then sort out that you've got the wrong vehicle because it's one of a billion similar vehicles on the road. We're not talking a canary yellow Lamborghini here.

Well, obviously. Like I said, not excusing their behavior. I'm just not surprised by it.

I know you're not excusing it.

I'm not surprised by it, but for different reasons. LAPD has had way too many cowboy issues in the last 30 years.

A report I read earlier said there were several eyewitnesses that said it didn't happen. FWIW.

            ACK!

Concerning one of the police shootings:

As the vehicle approached the house, officers opened fire, unloading a barrage of bullets into the back of the truck. When the shooting stopped, they quickly realized their mistake. The truck was not a Nissan Titan, but a Toyota Tacoma. The color wasn't gray, but aqua blue. And it wasn't Dorner inside the truck, but a woman and her mother delivering copies of the Los Angeles Times.

In an interview with The Times on Friday, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck outlined the most detailed account yet of how the shooting unfolded. Margie Carranza, 47, and her mother, Emma Hernandez, 71, were the victims of "a tragic misinterpretation" by officers working under "incredible tension," he said.
Law enforcement sources told The Times that at least seven officers opened fire. On Friday, the street was pockmarked with bullet holes in cars, trees, garage doors and roofs. Residents said they wanted to know what happened.
Jonas estimated that the officers fired between 20 and 30 rounds. Photographs of the back of the truck showed at least two dozen bullet holes. Neighbors, however, suggested there were more shots fired.

That must have been the Fallujah district in LA. Wonder how big the settlement will be?

Wonder if any of the officers will be charged with anything. Probably not.

It's actually tough to charge cops criminally in a situation like that - you can't prove malice or intent in a legal sense, so all you have are civil and administrative remedies.

Besides the 'voice' being different, we really think this guy wanted to tell Charlie Sheen he's 'effin awesome', that he likes Michelle Obama's new bangs, and made a Curb Your Enthusiasm reference? Let's get real. Your funny bits are made up.

In other LAPD news from this morning:

Seven members of a L.A. sheriff’s deputies secret clique that prides itself on celebrating shootings of mostly Latino and black gang bangers have been notified they are about to be fired, according to officials.

The secret group known as the Jump Out Boys prides itself on aggressive policing, much of it in Latino communities, and brands its members with matching tattoos of a red-eyed oversized skull bearing the clique acronym and a bony hand holding a revolver.

Smoke is tattooed over the gun’s barrel for members who have been involved in at least one shooting.
“We are alpha dogs who think and act like the wolf, but never become the wolf,” the pamphlet stated in one passage likening criminals to wolves. “We are not afraid to get our hands dirty without any disgrace, dishonor or hesitation… sometimes (members) need to do the things they don’t want to in order to get where they want to be.”

Before I throw this handful of boulders at the guys from J.O.B. I have to line up the shot, give me a sec, don't want to hit any ladies from Asia...

So the question is, did Dorner lose his job because he wouldn't go along with the Boys network, did that cause him to go postal and lose all credibility? If so I hope he doesn't hang alone.
