  • Silly Canadians ditch the penny.

Congratulations. Now everything will just get rounded up to the next five cents. You just got cheated out of four cents, dude.

The USA's northern neighbor stopped distributing cents on Monday. The Canadian government expects to save millions of dollars a year. The case has been made for years that the U.S. should get rid of its penny too. Would that be a good idea?

Obviously the Canadians are a bunch of communists and we must invade immediately. The oil fields, er... I mean the Canadian people need protecting.

You haven't been keeping much, have you? In all probability, the USA will follow suit.

Hope not. It's a tax on cash.

          You can't ****ing read.

It gets rounded, period. Not always up. Sometimes down. Only if you pay in cash. Something I haven't done in years.

Canada is ridiculously far ahead of the US when it comes to retail payments.

Been using debit cards since before 10% of Americans knew what they were.

Now they're back to the dark days of 1970s when a penny was probably worth what a nickel is worth today.

We've been using them in California since at least the 1980's and maybe before. That's just as far back as I can remember it.

Paying in cash is more convenient sometimes, and vending machines don't take credit cards.

Most vending machines don't take pennies either. (The ones that do are awesome though.)

Do they even have chip and pin in the US yet?

                            It's all about NFC now.

They've had them for a while now and, yes, I've seen some banks offer NFC thingies which will attach to your key ring but honestly it hasn't really caught on. It's just not very popular plus there were several security concerns after some media reports of it possible to use a small pocket scanner to get people's account info though they had to stand pretty close.
