First of all it is a misdemeanor and this is a pretty complicated matter as they'll just end up driving without a license. So no driver's training, no insurance checks, or any of that. Personally, I'm still for it as a matter of public safety on the roads. A much better approach would be to fine the living **** out any company which employs illegals. Republicans would never let that happen though so you have big meat packing companies who get caught every 6 months having nothing but illegals working in their factories. Why every 6 months? Why because Republicans made it illegal for DHS to check on any place more often than once every six months even if they're a repeat offender who has never bothered to change their hiring practices. Hell, these companies are massive names you'd find in any supermarket yet they TO THIS DAY run ads down in Mexico saying they'll hire anyone who shows up at their doors.

The solution is to make the fines so HUGE these companies go bust and shareholders get wiped out while the execs and members of the board go to prison. Do that and everyone other employer will say "Damn, they're finally serious. Fire all those illegals we're employing" but until then the $120 fine is about 1 day's worth of savings compared to hiring an actual American so that means they net make money deliberately hiring illegals and ignoring the law. Republicans, ever in bed with big business, won't allow that to ever happen though.
