We've been over this before many times.
You'd think you'd have learned the first 100 times.

How many times is Reg going to lead you into looking like an idiot before you stop auto-agreeing with everything he says? You have people like Jon who have lived in both countries giving you direct real world comparisons, yet you decide to cheerlead for Reg who bases his opinions on 2 minutes of googling and some right wing talk radio. It's embarrasing dude.

        Wait.

WHO said .22s are harmless? Also, "fetched an AR-15 to kill his father" implicates the AR-15 in what way? Was his father immune to .22s or something?
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

        • I believe Reg went on a spree a while back of talking about how hard it is to kill people with a .22

As for the AR-15, he was ambushing his father as he came home. I believe his mother had been asleep.

          • Yeah, along with his brother. He could have used a kitchen knife instead, the .22 was just more convenient. I'm curious about what kind of .22 he used.

All guns are dangerous. I have never and would never claim that a .22 is not dangerous. You can't reliably kill someone with it at range, but with good shot placement it can definitely be lethal. Most .22 wounds would not be lethal with prompt medical attention.

              • Overall, these statistics are very depressing for those who subscribe to the notion that America is a meritocracy and a "land of opportunity." We see that there is far less social mobility in the United States than in other countries and other studies have shown clearly that this mobility is declining.
I find no reason not to believe these trends. We have advanced corporate cronyism and punished small business entrepeneurs. We have not opened ourselves up for immigration nor encouraged those who are hungry for success.

Not compared to other first world countries, there isn't. The rags-to-riches dream of social mobility in the US is largely a myth.

And I don't think access to mental healthcare is even slightly related.
It is for spree killers. In fact, that's persistently the common denominator. Reagan(and the ACLU...) dismantled the asylum system in the 80s which dumped a lot of crazies on the streets and made it difficult to take crazies out of circulation.

                  • And it's dead.

                    Truly dead.

Harry Reid does a whip count and they can't even get 40 votes for an assault weapons ban and not much more for a magazine ban. Not even the Democrats like gun control now. So very dead. Of course, Biden won't give up.

In Colorado, some new gun control has passed but the Sheriff's Association has come out against it and many (perhaps most) of them are refusing to enforce it. Much talk of 2014 has ensued and it's not looking good for Governor Hickenlooper. One of the largest manufacturers of rifle magazines in the country, Magpul, is relocating operations, as it is currently based in Fort Collins, Colorado. At the same time it is currently directing most of its production to Colorado as a last "**** you" to the state government so that it can inundate the state with these baby-killing magazines as much as possible before the ban goes into effect. Not that it matters because residents can just drive to Wyoming to buy their magazines and then drive back, and that's totally legal.

In New York, Cuomo is backtracking and calling for a loosening of his own gun control bill. The new magazine capacity restriction will probably wind up getting eliminated before it even goes into effect.

And rifle and pistol ammunition is still pretty much impossible to find anywhere. At my local Dick's and Gander Mountain there are people who line up in the morning before the trucks arrive and basically grab it right off the pallets.

                      • They're convinced Obama is going to go door to door grabbing guns so they're going to stockpile so much ammo that he can't possibly carry it all.

                          Tell me about it.

When I bought my M4 clone back in September, I bought 60 rounds of .227 to break it in.

Those are the only rounds of .227 I've owned to date.

It's not as stupid as you think. The prices Dick's and Gander Mountain are selling the ammo at are below what is currently market price online, so they're buying it up and flipping it for a tidy profit.

An AR in .227? Do you mean .223? .223, 9mm, and .22LR are the calibers that have been hit worst. Most large hunting rounds are still reasonably available, and shotgun rounds can still be found in quantity for a decent price.
