Hey, maybe it won't harm them. I'll let the people of Africa and South Asia figure out what best for themselves. I am not an expert on Africa, nor Asia, and I don't pretend to know what's best for them. But I think it's incredible that you expect me to not only pretend like I know what's best for them, but also feel bad on account of some good luck of my own. Why should I panic about something that stands to make my life better?John Brown did nothing wrong.

If you're a slowly moving ball of meat, and you can't protect yourself from stone wielding primates, then you suck at life. Either learn the ways of the sheep, cow, and chicken, or learn to fight back. Or who knows, maybe the fact that they were in the cold limited their population density, made procreation more difficult, and generally hindered their efforts at survival in the face of a voracious new predator.Originally posted by gribbler View PostYou can call them failed if you want. The point is that their failure is being efficiently killed and eaten by humans and has nothing to do with the cold.John Brown did nothing wrong.

What is the point to this rant about how you think woolly mammoths suck at life?Originally posted by Felch View PostIf you're a slowly moving ball of meat, and you can't protect yourself from stone wielding primates, then you suck at life. If a homeless man freezes to death, I feel it's safe to say that he'd have been better off in warmer weather.Originally posted by gribbler View PostYou've already decided you know what's best for homeless people in England so I'm not asking for you to take a big leap by suggesting that hurting agricultural yields in Africa is bad for Africans.
I don't know if they even will have to start struggling to survive. Maybe the planet as a whole will get better, and those who are finding life difficult in their specific regions will move on to the new good places.Originally posted by kentonio View PostDo you think it will make your life better if billions of people start struggling to survive worldwide? do you not imagine there might be a few knock-on effects from that Felch?John Brown did nothing wrong.

Well, first, they did suck. That's what being extinct means. The second point is that the cold climate did them no favors. While African elephants were able to survive in the face of elephant guns and a bloodthirsty billiards boom, woolly mammoths didn't have the population density or capacity to recover that would have been possible with more vegetation.Originally posted by gribbler View PostWhat is the point to this rant about how you think woolly mammoths suck at life?
Do I have to draw you a ****ing diagram?John Brown did nothing wrong.

Wouldn't you? Or are you some secret BNP thug?Originally posted by kentonio View PostMass migration? You think the people living in those new good places will be happy to welcome millions of refugees? Would you?
Describe the nature of his reduced crop yields. Was it because of drought, heat, flooding, what? Climate change is much more complicated than freezing to death.Originally posted by gribbler View PostOkay. Apply this simple reasoning to a farmer with reduced crop yields because climate changed.John Brown did nothing wrong.

You have no data on elephant population density and you pulled this out of your ass. African elephants live on the same continent as the one where humans evolved and would have been exposed to humans throughout human evolution and had plenty of time to adapt to the new predator.Originally posted by Felch View PostWell, first, they did suck. So you think that arctic regions can maintain the same biomass as tropical regions? You think that the arctic climate could support the same elephant population as the tropical savannah? You think elephants had plenty of time to adapt to elephant guns? Listen to yourself.John Brown did nothing wrong.

And many ways it can help them. But depending on the way that it causes harm, solutions can be found. If you have a drought problem, switch to drought resistant crops. If you have a heat problem, same thing. If your problem is that your farmland is underwater, start aquaculture. Problems are not the end of the world, people just need to be flexible enough to adapt. I mean, if elephants can adapt to elephant guns, then people can adapt to a little warmth.Originally posted by gribbler View PostYes, there are multiple ways climate change can destroy crops.John Brown did nothing wrong.
