There are two problems here, DD: overspending in defense, and insufficient revenue.
Cut entitlements and 3/4ths of the deficit problem is eliminated.

I'd rather not degrade the middle class anymore than it already has been, and not increase our poverty rate and cruelly cut off the working poor.

So, IOW, you really don't care about cutting the deficit and putting the US on a firm fiscal footing. Default will do all of these things, btw.

Doesn't matter we're going over the cliff anyway per Obama's desire.

We can get on a "firm fiscal footing" if the Democrats and Republicans simply do nothing and let the Bush tax cuts expire + sequestration cuts kick in.

Its what Obama really wants. Gets tax rates on everyone to go up. Cuts in defense. Gets to blame all the pain on the GOP when he is the one pushing it.

Is it time for the GOP to consider repealing the Eisenhower tax cut for the movie industry and reinstate a 20% excise tax on movie theaters' gross revenues that had been imposed at the end of World War II as a deficit-cutting measure? That is the industry that constantly begs for more taxes after all.

Some of the industry's employees surely support higher taxes, but I don't think the MPAA is lobbying for tax hikes.

Sort of like how some wealthy Americans support higher taxes, but the GOP (the party that represents rich folks) is against it?
                            John Brown did nothing wrong.

The entertainment industry is a major source of Democratic contributions and spread-the-wealth rhetoric, even as they prosper based on this tax cut, and numerous other bits of favorable treatment scattered throughout the Internal Revenue Code. It's time for a change given the current fiscal climate.
