  • Questions wrt voting on economic self interest

    1. At what level of income do you think Americans serve their economic self-interest by voting for Republican rather than voting for Democrats?
    2. Do you approve of people who vote based on which candidate would be better for their self interest? Or do you think there is some other, better way for people to decide how to vote?
    3. If in your opinion some people do vote against their own self interest, what in your opinion are the primary reasons people do this?

  • #2
    1. All incomes.
    2. I don't approve of people who vote so that they can get earmarks from congressional appropriations.
    3. I think anyone who votes Democrat votes against their own economic self interest.
If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

This new myth (probably more accurately Ailes-directed Foxspeak) that anyone who votes Democratic is "voting for handouts" because they're "takers not makers" is pretty annoying.

Oh please. Like everyone getting a check from the government is Democratic? And every Democrat is getting a check from the government? But not Republicans? Give me a break.

It's classic propaganda technique, but pretty insulting to people whose votes they're supposed to be courting.

Ignoring the original questions just because I can, voting for economic self-interest is not necessarily bad, but nor is voting against it; it would depend on the voter's circumstances, and I imagine it's not really my place to judge them. As many annoyed conservatives have pointed out, when (relatively) poor Kansans support their values over their wallets, they're gullible dupes, but when rich celebrities do it, they're noble.

Republicans don't want me to vote my pocketbook, as my business has really taken off the past 3 years.

How does this disprove the notion that some people are voting for handouts?

How does this disprove the notion that some people are voting for handouts? The fact that it's not an issue for some well to do voters doesn't meant that it isn't an issue for others.

                    It's classic propaganda technique

How so? Where is the lie or the insult involved? It's not a statement about all Democrats or all Republicans; it's a statement about the voting motives of a given part of the population. If you choose to take offence at a statement of fact that's your choice.

An example: after the advent of affirmative action many more people began to self-identify as a member of a minority than before. Does it take a genius to work out why?

                      1) Unanswerable
                      2) Why wouldn't I? It only makes sense.
                      3) See 2. Voting against your own interests is pretty retarded, unless you're forward-thinking enough and have a plan for changing your current situation. Here, I allude to those in economic conditions less than they desire. Even in this case, you'd be voting in your best interest.

If you have an income - the Republican party is your party. If you're rich enough not to have an income or are dependent upon the government for the entirety of what you live off of, your party is the Democrat party.

I believe in enlightened self interest. So yes - I am not surprised when people dependent on the government and people who have money vote to hurt people who are not them to fund the things they like.

I believe you've misunderstood where their interest lies. Everyone votes in accordance to their self-interest.

I think anyone making under $150,000/year and voting Rupublican should recognize themselves as class traitors and exercise their 2nd amendment rights, then exorcise themselves with a bullet to the head. If they aren't making enough for a reliable firearm but have running water, wrist slashing is apropros. Remember kids, "Down the road, not across the street."
