  • Petraeus Done

    Infidelity.

A shame, considering the great debt of gratitude that the US has incurred toward him.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I dunno, if he can't do good enough counter-intelligence on his affair, how can he do so for the country?
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Can we just get rid of the 'you have to quit if you're unfaithful' stuff now? Job is job, marriage is marriage, do one right if not the other.

Also, which conspiracy theory will win out? Did Petraeus resign to avoid testifying, or was he forced to resign to avoid testifying, about Benghazi? Or did he resign to avoid something else? Was the affair with a beautiful Chinese spy, or a Russian? Did Obama decide he knew too much?

I suspect the incident in Benghazi also has something to do with this.

Ah c'mon. He's an old soldier who did us a great service five years ago. I have a lot of respect for what he did.

It's different when it comes to intelligence officers. Affairs can lead to blackmail for secrets very easily.

Oh, give me a break. He's the director of the CIA, not a real intelligence officer. And, it wouldn't be blackmailable if it weren't a firable offense, after all... just come clean and move on.

Well you can still blackmail someone if you believe they don't want their spouse to find out. Although anyone that chooses spouse over country and works in the intelligence community is already ****ed.

I wouldn't be surprised if he cheated on his wife but I think he's also getting thrown under the bus. It smells a bit fishy. Not tinfoil hat conspiracy fishy, but office politics fishy.

This is the kind of thing that is bad form for an intelligence chief as it can lead to blackmail or other compromises.

Is there a protocol I'm unaware of that prevents Congress from putting him before a Committee and making him testify?
