    • From my experience, Chinese people who move to the US don't mind the US getting tougher on China. They don't like the Chinese government. That's why they leave.

Their kids on the other hand, if they were born in China but moved away before they were 12, have a tendency to think China is the best country on the planet and yearn for their ancestral homeland.

If they aren't Chinese, they probably like it when Romney is tough on China. There's a lot of racial animosity among Asians. Koreans don't like the Chinese. Vietnamese do not like the Chinese. They probably approve of getting as tough as possible on China.

Oh, do please detail this experience of yours, friend.

Then there are Indians, which just should be considered Indians instead of being lumped together. Then there's people from the Middle East like Pakistan who are again for no particularly good reason lumped in one group with everyone on the world's largest and most populous continent.

          • I don't really need to. What the **** do you want me to do, recount every time I've spoken to an Asian person in the last 8 years of my life? And I'm sorry, would you lump Pakistanis into the same group as Japanese? What the hell?

I'm glad my post entertained you so, but I'd like to know what about it you think was actually ridiculous.

            • Diversity for Republicans is having two white males from distictively different Christian churches on the ticket. How much more diverse can you get?

                  1. Pakistan is not in the goddamned Middle East. It is not even particularly close to the goddamned Middle East.

                  2. You are the one making the assertion that Chinese and Japanese and Korean and Vietnamese aren't different from one another, in all your experience; it is on you to back that up.

                  3. The reason I used the so much is because that post what extraordinarily -able, which is unusual for you.

                    • Umm, HC, Pakistan is basically India but Muslim. The people are genetically similar and culturally similar, to the point that in major US cities they live in the same area and eat at the same restaurants (why many Indian restaurants serve Halal meats).

Chinese and Japanese are really radically different. Koreans share similarities with both, given their history. Vietnamese I have no idea (don't know any nor do I know much about their country).

I generally think what Imran said is about right. The combination of more highly educated folks, who largely have a deep respect for science, and the later generations being substantially less religious-Christian, is probably why they're avoiding the increasingly Christian Republican party.

That'll work great with the Cuban vote. Oops, you already have that.

Um, yeah we do. I've always checked "Asian-American" and every Indian I've ever ran into has considered themselves Asian. Hell, on cable packages, Indian channels are listed under "Asian".

Pakistan being in the Middle East is WTF-able. Iran isn't even a Middle East county. Pakistan is basically Muslim India (as I see snoopy has pointed out).

And yeah, East Asians have vast difference as well.

                              • My guess is they don't cover Asian History very well at CMU. Or British, for that matter, or any other history, or he'd at least know about the creation of Pakistan...
