They call it that so that future lawyers and businessmen can fulfill their liberal arts requirement without taking soc, psych, or anthro.

You should. And don't forget women's issues.

It's real easy to criticize HC for his shallow arguments, but so far you've claimed that Asians aren't Christian (certainly a surprise the 45% of Asian Americans who are Christian), and acted like the Himalayas are irrelevant to human identity. Pakistan and China sharing a border doesn't mean that they necessarily had a lot of historical contact, or that they should be lumped together into a broad ethnic grouping.

        • Question: Why should Republicans do anything to change (Since obviously they're right on the issues unlike those libtards)? Reading some comments on conservative websites it seems like a lot of Republicans aren't in the next election mode yet and are predicting things like Obama crowning himself king.

If only 45% of Asian Americans are Christian then that could certainly account for them being more likely to vote for Democrats than the nation as a whole. His comment was valid.

Also, they aren't Christian and get scared sometimes of the overt Christianity, which has become more openly pronounced, of the Republican party (remember George W. Bush, while openly Evangelical, took GREAT pains to make sure he respected people of all faiths).
Imran didn't say, "They are less likely to be Christian than the general American population." He explicitly said that they weren't Christian, even though a plurality of Asian American are. Defend that all you want, it's Alby levels of ignorant.

              • Whatever... they more likely than not to be Christian, if that makes your pedanticness feel any better (esp considering I'm an Asian Christian).

In America, most people, even if they knew where he was from, would say he's Middle Eastern, while Brits would probably call him Asian. I'm not saying that Pakistan isn't in Asia, and according to the census definition he is Asian, but I've never heard an American refer to anybody from Pakistan as Asian. Hell, most Americans, even reasonably well informed ones, would say Indonesians are Middle Eastern. Middle Eastern and Muslim are that bound up in the American psyche.

I'd call him a ****ing person and not try to shove him in a box.

                    • Okay, how about a serious post from me. Here's what I think the Republican party could do, to rehabilitate itself.

                      1. Sever their relationship with the religious-right fringe and Tea Party. Seriously; you don't need pathological bigots as a voting demographic to win elections.

                      2. Find an effective way to reach out to racial minority groups such as blacks and Hispanics. Continuing to ignore them in your party's efforts to reach out to your traditional groups will continue to come with costs.

                      3. Publicly and affirmatively welcome and accept gay conservatives such as GOProud, and Log Cabin Republicans. Many of them support you for time being, but continuing to take their votes for granted without including them in campaign events and appearances and talking with them on issues will just alienate more conservative gays who may start to feel that the Republican party does not want them under their so-call "big" tent.

                      4. Abandon homophobic stances on social issues concerning gay people. Gay marriage will not destroy the fabric of American society. Giving gay people equal employment protection will not allow gay people to have public sex at their workplaces. Keeping the reversal of DADT intact is not having any detrimental effect on military morale or their combat effectiveness. This will give independent gay voters and just-to-left gay voters actual, meaningful choices between voting for Democratic candidates or Republican candidates.

                      5. Stop your war on women. Women have the same right to make their own healthcare decisions regarding their own bodies as men do. Abortion is legal in America, nor do contraceptives kill babies; get over it. There were a significant increase in women who voted for Democrats over Republicans this campaign year because many of them were offended by proposals to have men make healthcare decisions for women.

Of course, Republican politicians and their party can continue to just ignore these voting demographic groups, and keep winning with just white male voters. That just means every presidential election and Congress election from here on out, you are bound to win less and less elections as our country continues to become more diverse.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

Obviously. What do Pakistan and China have in common? What do Japan and China have in common? If we're identifying cultural regions of Asia, it's pretty obvious that Japan and China occupy the same one.

A majority of them are not Christian. Cry all you want but the generalization he made wasn't any worse than any other generalization.
