  • Did you not figure out that it's a joke? I'm making fun of Ben. Admittedly not a necessary exercise.

@jackhealyNYT Latest turnout stats from #Colorado sec of state: 663,000 Dems, 699,000 Repubs, 561,000 unaffiliated. Trouble for Obama?

What do polls say about Romney among independents?

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

      • Polls say Romney is ahead by something like 4 points among independents. That's one of the areas where they all mostly agree (it's the party ID that they disagree about).

          • Oerdin, what part of it was a joke..? Did the NY going republican not tip you off? Or for that matter, NM going republican? Or the HGTTG reference?

            Speaking of which:

Most of the so called "independents" are actually disaffected Republicans many of them tea party voters. They're normally white, male, and over 50 so it isn't surprising Romney is winning that demographic. That said, that is only the average numbers and there are a good number of independents who really are independent instead of ***** like DD who claim to be independent but always vote a straight Republican ticket.

                        • New Mexico has a republican governor and for a long time had one of the most influential republican senators on the budget committee. It's hardly a liberal state If the Republican party would stop deciding to pander to the inbred ***** crowd with its immigration policy, NM could easily be a Republican stronghold.

That doesn't really matter for the methodology of the poll. The way it works is this:

People who identify Republican: % voting for Romney, % voting for Obama
People who identify Independent: % voting for Romney, % voting for Obama
People who identify Democrat: % voting for Romney, % voting for Obama

Then you figure out how many "republicans," "independents," and "democrats" are going to vote.

This isn't precisely how it works but basically the methodology is not damaged by some "independents" being closet republicans.

Oh I totally agree. The Republican stance on immigration is retarded from both a political and a policy perspective. But let's face it, it's not likely NM will be going Republican in 12 hours or so.
