  • It is fun as hell, as long as you can survive the first few weeks.

When the muton elites and sectoid commanders and sectopods show up? Holy balls. Poor Nuke; that crazy Egyptian ***** had been with me from mission #1. Alas.

      • Why would they make this game turn-based and not real-time like Commandos?

            I predict you are right.

The offensive has struggled mightily against elite defenses; luckily, there does not appear to be another elite defense on the schedule, until they arrive at whatever bowl game.

real time like x-com apocalypse. a modern version of that game would be amazing.

                  Oh really?

The fact of the matter is, adding a time element to a small units tactics game would be an improvement. It adds another layer and factor to consider.

I did pick up this game for the 360, though.

                  • Why?

Why would you ever buy a game for console when it is available (in a stable version) for PC? PC allows for mods.

                    • Well, I have a 360 and don't have a PC, so the choice was easy. The 360 version is pretty good, although the lack of mods will suck.

                          • I finished my normal run this morning. There were a couple of points where my progress was halted as I lacked some vital item, but the game let me know what I was missing by labeling research as a priority, and even reminding me in mission!

Then I played a few rounds of multiplayer and Im doing pretty well with a team of 2 heavys and 1 medic. being able to launch 2 rockets in 1 turn really helps solve problems. I had my arse handed to me by one guy though. Im sure his team was just... one guy.

While that would give the game a fun "click really quickly or your troops die" feel--like StarCraft, only instead of some expendable zerglings it's troops you've spent the whole game building up--it's only the beginning. What if they added a relationship simulator too? I feel that would add another element to consider and make the game more tactically interesting. For example, if your main heavy just broke up with his girlfriend, the sniper could sit up all night putting him back together (fatigue penalty + cost of two pint tubs of ice cream), or just let it go (heavy has random crying jags for next two missions). That would add a "human element" to your characters in addition to giving the player more elements to consider. And giving the player more factors to worry about always improves games. Your top designers don't release any games until the player has at least seven things on his mind at all times as he plays. Otherwise it wouldn't be fun.
