I stole the build of the guy that beat me in Multiplayer, and its powerful.

Spoiler:

It is Assault soldier, with psi warrior spec, in ghost armour, with an alloy cannon. I packed chitin plating and a plasma pistol to get to 9750 points

It comes in just under the points threshold for ranked. Ive named her Kate Middleton, Ive been cycling through the names looking for an English sounding one so she gets the right country flag, but so far I have had a Bulgarian, then a German Kate Middleton. I will keep trying I guess!

Playing as the ghost of Princess Di is a great idea

Well I made a few kids mad with my ghost shenanigans. Picking apart squads of 4-5 units, 1 turn at a time is priceless. Ive not technically used the chitin yet, Ive not been that low health. but Im only at 16 bars without it, and thats a lucky crit from a plasma sniper iirc.

Im considering dropping the chitin for the mind shield, but the text implys its for defense. My mind control is not giving me great % chances against xcom soldiers.

Also my Australian Kate Middleton decided she would wear the Japanese flag on the next mission, I dont know why. She will also break her invis to get a reaction shot on someone if they get close. That could end poorly if she reveals herself after the opponents first move

I'm disappointed.
This game is not X-com. Should have called it something else. They failed to capture the same feel ( strategy ) that made X-com enjoyable to play as a combat and economic game simulator.
It is a fun game to play but it just is not the same old x-com game.
My biggest complaint is the scripting of the game. There's much more that I dislike but I see no purpose in complaining to this crowd.
Anybody else feels the same or is it just me?

I'm down to 3 snipers and a heavy. 2 Lt's and 2 squadies. Have one more recruit coming in 2 days but too broke to get any others. Everyone's still using the default gear except my Lt sniper has a SCOPE. Lost China and India and high panic in half the countries.

What the hell can I do with 3 snipers and a heavy?

I'm thinking starting out on Ironman Classic was a bad idea.

I failed about 20 ironman classic early games, and then went and played a full game on normal. The stuff I learnt in classic was invaluable

I finally met another ghost, I kicked down a door and then hid. Of course he came running to see what the noise was and blammo!

Then we got rematched, he changed his loadout to 2 cyberdiscs and got his revenge

You're the dingus who named her Kate Middleton. And now you expect her NOT to expose herself to hostile aliens with zoom scopes?

Disaster.

Just finished the Gollop Chamber, wanted to level up at least one heavy to Captain after the previous problems. Downed a large UFO in Canada, the report said to expect the heavy hitters: Muton Elites, Heavy Floaters, Sectopod, Ethereal. Sent my A-Team.

Things were going okay, the heavy floaters were in exposed ground, but they concentrated their fire on my sniper, and Black Widow went down before she could take them down In The Zone. The Etheral mind controlled Bishop, my assault specialist; my other assault couldn't get through the heavy floaters to take down the Ethereal, and Louco was then finished off by the sectopod. Crocodile, my support (and ONLY psi capable soldier), was the next one down. Galen, my medic, managed to stablize Widow and Crocodile, who went down practically on top of one another; then dashed across the map to stablize Louco. He managed to take down a heavy floater as well, before he got outflanked by another. Bishop was freed by this time (having killed Charlemagne, my heavy Lt.), and he finally managed to finish off the Ethereal and both of the remaining Floaters, though it took him down to 4 health--one of the floaters had managed to hit him with a grenade while he was near Widow and Crocodile, who both died as a result.

This left him with 4 health, 4 dead compatriots, a stabilized friend, and a full health sectopod to take down.

I probably should've just abandoned the mission then and there, to save Bishop. But I figured he wouldn't be the kind to run, so I gave it a go. Got in high cover, managed to actually hit the sectopod with a 22% chance, taking it down to 20 health. "Hey," I thought, "if he manages to survive this next round, he could run & gun up to it and rapid fire with his alloy cannon, and I could make it out of here with both of my Colonel assaults alive!"

LOL NO. Sectopod creamed him.

Final toll: 4 Colonels (2 Assault, 1 Sniper, 1 Support (my only psi soldier)), 1 Lieutenant (Heavy), 1 Sargeant (Medic). And so I am left to try to level up my remaining squaddies and corporals against the best the aliens have to offer, and I don't even have any psi (or any more Support, for that matter),
