For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

We understand. Douchebags like you don't grasp the need/purpose of public education.

How are people who work most of their lives on minimum wage suppose to prepare for retirement?

One of the key objections to the government funding thereof. It is a government endorsement of what ever education and/or culture is being provided. Is this a legitamite function of government to endorse culture of one sort and legitamize it at the expense potentially of others?

                  • No it says that things like art in particular are meant to be appreciated by the individual on their own merits, not a sanctioned endorsed thing. My apologies if the hyperbole was too heavy handed and the point was missed likely excusable given the reader is used to being told what is a good point/bad point.

You mean like Michelango's painting of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel (or his David)?

And I apologize if your hyperbole was ridiculously heavy handed to the point of self-parody, but that's likely because it was merely just appreciated by you in your own individual mindset regardless of its lack of merit.

                      • What fascinates me about Renaissance is the obsession with baby Jesus. I mean, if you took all the resources they spent on painting baby Jesus OVER AND OVER AND OVER in EVERY SINGLE ****ING CHURCH they probably could have invented space travel.

Interesting that you feel compelled to use examples from the renaissance to support your arguement when that offers a singular point in history counterpoint to the stranglehold the government had on development of art. Over the breadth of time, governement/church had a much moreso supressive role in art moreso then in its development.

Space travel was heretical thought. Only approved subject matter was allowed in the sphere of art even during the Renaissance. The passive agressive artists did their best to slip in heretical nuances where they were able. And viola! the individuals in the public loved it for being fresh and different.

Educate themselves and improve their economic value as workers. Sorry, people don't get a free pass for coasting, and unless you're severely disabled, (which should trigger another form of safety net), lifetime low-wage employment involves a lot of choices along the way.

There is a reason that people go back to Renassance art as something that is upheld as masterpieces. It was a time when the multiple states promoted the arts (probably in competition with themselves, true) to produce amazing works of art which never could have been done had the market been what was dictating art.

Furthermore, governmental support of artists isn't exactly unheard of. Jackson Pollack and Mark Rothko, for more modern examples, were given grants by the government through the WPA. I don't see the supression in their work.
