You and the person who made that blog post are retarded.

    • No, really, gribbler. Don't sugarcoat it. What do you think? Just speak right up.

        Is this kindergarten?
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

        • No, if this were kindergarten I would probably get reprimanded for informing someone that they aren't terribly bright.

No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

His views on freedom of speech are to a large extent moot for the purposes of the point I am making. To demonstrate, let's say that all views except for those consistent with Ben's worldview were banned in the part of the world that Ben is living. Asher would still hate Ben for his comments, even though they were coming from a society without what most would consider unfetterred free speech.

Similarly, if America had strict freedom of speech restrictions, but allowed any comment denigrating Islam would the Islamic world hate America for its (oxymoronic) freedom, or for it's denigrating statements against Islam.

                      • Oh the irony if a fundy took objection and attacked someone for that.

                        • That's not going to happen. Fundamentalists in the US are very used to having their hero figures lampooned.

                          • Why assume fundies only in the U.S?

I don't think that radical Muslims hate how the First Amendment is phrased, nor do they hate the way that the Supreme Court has interpreted and applied it. Rather, they hate that some people say things that they don't like, and they wish to control those people and silence them. In that sense, they do hate free speech. They may be completely ignorant of our laws and culture, but they hate the fact that we are free to offend them, and they wish to intimidate and terrorize us until we conform to their standards.
                              John Brown did nothing wrong.

                              • Seriously though, if you are a religious or political leader in a nation (any nation) with rampant unemployment, a corrupt government/clergy and a huge rich/poor gap, who do you want the angry masses to take their frustrations out on - you or them? The Muslim Brotherhood has called for a Million Man March against the US today. Do you think this will require anyone to take time off work?

We have, temporarily, given 3 countries "freedom", at the cost of western and local lives. 10 bombings in one day in Iraq doesn't get a mention here. Australian soldiers killed by Afghani police barely gets a mention. Since Libya is newly free, it is still interesting. Oh well, I guess Iran will distract us from that, too.
