    The Red Flag: to the tune of Oh Christmas tree

    The people's flag is deepest red,
    It shrouded oft our martyred dead,
    And ere their limbs grew stiff and cold,
    Their hearts' blood dyed its ev'ry fold.

    Chorus: So raise the scarlet standard high.
    Within its shade we'll live and die,
    Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
    We'll keep the red flag flying here.

    Look 'round, the Frenchman loves its blaze,
    The sturdy German chants its praise,
    In Moscow's vaults its hymns are sung
    Chicago swells the surging throng.

    Chorus

    It waved above our infant might,
    When all ahead seemed dark as night;
    It witnessed many a deed and vow,
    We must not change its colour now.

    Chorus

    It well recalls the triumphs past,
    It gives the hope of peace at last;
    The banner bright, the symbol plain,
    Of human right and human gain.

    Chorus

    It suits today the weak and base,
    Whose minds are fixed on self and place
    To cringe before the rich man's frown,
    And haul the sacred emblem down.

    Chorus

    With heads uncovered swear we all
    To bear it onward till we fall;
    Come dungeons dark or gallows grim,
    This song shall be our parting hymn.

    Rousing final chorus, please raise your fist:

    So raise the scarlet standard high.
    Within its shade we'll live and die,
    Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
    We'll keep the red flag flying here.
    Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Tis the rising of the moon..

    Look, I just don't anymore, okay?

      Since when do you have a problem with prejudice and bigotry? You're a conservative, remember?
      A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

        Why the hell wouldn't you be? I'd be furious if the government told me I wasn't allowed to work as hard as I want.

          I thought religions created the concept of a weekend where you don't go to work?

            Think I beat you to that one.
            Weekends, of course, date back to biblical times (the Sabbath).

              Yeah, let's let all the eight-year-olds out there work as hard as "they want".

                  Did the classical Greeks and Romans have weekends? I thought they just had a large number of days off scattered throughout the year?

                    The Romans had various public holidays that were frequent enough that they basically constituted weekends. Some rich guy would sponsor circus races and gladiator fights, thereby buying votes for some public office. The only difference is that each one nominally celebrated something in particular.

                      It was in the OP. I thought that was what this thread was about?

                        Are the unions blasphemers if they take credit for something God did?

                          Funny... I haven't experienced that in the acting & technical workers unions. I suppose the non-unionized auto workers in the US south wear rainbow t-shirts and voted 'Hillary' in the Democratic primary 4 years ago?

                            Wouldn't you like to work as hard as you want and be fairly paid, or work as hard as you can and still get a dollar per day?

                              If you have useful employable skills you can just leave and seek a new employer who's willing to pay more for you.

                                Luckily slavery has been outlawed and such a dilemma doesn't exist
