Sorry but you're wrong. Having the American government condemn another nations actions can be a powerful political tool, which is exactly why they do it.

    • So? Words are meaningless without action.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

That Assad fellow sure stepped down real quick after the US expressed disapproval of his regime, didn't he?

Some of the Christian Right are over in Africa pushing this legislation.

That certainly proves that words are pointless without action, well done.

Because killing the black family via our war on drugs/prison+justice system does more damage.

Actually, the gap between single black mothers and single white mothers is non-existent I believe. The gap is really between black men and white men.

                  • Personally I would love for the supreme's to rule that the war on drugs/etc is unconstitutional due to being discriminatory...

Actually it's not my job to prove that, because a couple of millenia of evidence already proves it. When powerful countries want to influence other governments then making proclamations disapproving of their actions is frequently enough to cause changes of policy, especially when those countries rely on you for things like aid. You don't need to point a gun at everyone to get the job done.

                      • Given the fact no aid cut was on the table, I'm still curious where you get the impression Uganda would have cared about the resolution?

                        • You don't have to wave a stick all the time, sometimes just showing disapproval is enough to let the other side connect the dots themselves.

And if they play the odds and call your bluff because no one has cut aid over the country's human rights record in the past?

Britain pours aid into autocratic Uganda despite pleas of democratic opposition

If you're going with a couple millenia of evidence, you're including "give us gold or we'll wipe you out" under "influence".

...come to think of it, that was about all it was until very recently.

That worked sooooo well with the Libya, Iraq, North Korea, etc.
