The Cree, Mohawk etc. have treaties with the Crown, not with Quebec. Last time around, most 1st nations indicated that they would stay part of Canada. Quebec would become the Balkans of North America if Quebecers voted to seperate.

It would be a pretty severe strain on the whole country.

BC, AB, and SK would lean to saying... new deal, please. Contemplating federal governments beholden only to ON and Atlantic Canada to win elections would be very unpleasant.

The initial desire of most would be to remain Canadian. The forces pushing us apart would be pretty strong though.

They have a deal with the Crown, and they have accepted Canada in continuation. They do not have a deal with Quebec.

Given the splits within Quebec? No, not a chance. Remember, Quebec would lose it's hinterland, it's most populous city, the majority of it's industry etc. You'd be looking at a state with about 4 million people (at best), vs Canada with 25.

Other provinces - maybe. BC has geographical advantages that would make it very difficult for the ROC to do much.

Serious question: If Quebec voted to secede, would the Canadian federal government recognize it or would we get a Canadian civil war? Is secession constitutional in Canada?

We have confronted the reality of it being possible. It is accepted by the SCOC and the Canadian government that it could be done.

The SCOC said something to the effect that they could negotiate (it would be a modification of the Constitution). The federal government has spelled out terms that would be acccepted to begin the process (clear majority on a clear question. 50% + 1 on an obfuscating question would be rejected (probably)).

Probably, right up until the point where the US government (and NATO) decided to pick a side in a serious way.

Half the airforce's combat aircraft are stationed in Quebec (along with a large number of francophones, I am imagining). Nominally, one third of the effective reg force combat infantry and a good portion of the mechanised are French formations (stationed in Quebec). Navy would not be relevant, but they would have virtually none.
