Falkland Islanders to hold referendum over sovereignty

Why don't you? You're the one turning your back on core American values, and your views on the Falklands suggest you might actually appreciate a might-makes-right, Hobbesian ****hole like Somalia.

We might have had a chance if we hadn't invaded.
I also laugh at people that claim that the islanders should be kicked out and don't deserve the right to self-determination because they kicked out the Argentine garrison, when pretty much 99% of us descend from Europeans.
Bottom line, it's still an effective tool to rile up patriotism in people and play the other side as the evil ogre, which fits the current government just right. Sigh.

Of course, hence my toddler throwing a tantrum remark. The Falkands gets dragged up about every 40 years. Between 1888 and 1941 there was a longer gap, and now we have 31 years to get the average down. On the Argie side, it's all bread and circuses, but they can't do anything about it. If it's ever going to change hands, that will be something the UK decides or the Islanders themselves.Originally posted by Kaak View PostIf you had talked to any Argentinians, you'd know that rational sense is completely irrelevant and doesn't have anything to do with it. Argentina is headed for another default/currency collapse, and the government wants people to pay attention to something else. My guess is that they know they won't get the Falklands back probably don't want them back. If they got them back, they'd have to find another way to distract the masses.

Still, even if the Argies ever stop acting like toddlers throwing a tantrum after tossing their rattles our of the crib, I'm sure the UK government might think a bit about that aspect before any negotiations.

Who cares what a Pope says about who owns what land? Like Stalin said "How many tank divisions does the Pope have?"
