I think a lot of college "rape" plays out like this:

1. Woman goes to party, maybe or maybe not wearing revealing clothing
2. Woman gets very drunk
3. Men hit on woman relentlessly
4. Woman goes home with one of the men and has sex with him
5. Woman wakes up in the morning and says to herself "my my what have I done"
6. Woman informs police that she was forcibly raped by man she consensually had drunk sex with.

Yes, if a woman regrets having drunken sex I'm sure her first impulse is to go down to the police station and claim she was forcibly raped

Getting a woman so drunk that the consensual aspect is debatable is an issue for me. It's been a college sport for a long time.
I wouldn't necessarily say it's rape, but it's definitely not a good thing.

Normally I wouldn't call that rape but stupidity. Unfortunately in many instances the female gets slightly looped and the male takes advantage by buying her enough additional drinks to seal the deal.
Yes, I know it sometimes works the other way, but in general the man is using the booze to gain advantage in the situation.

To be clear, if Person A intentionally gets Person B so drunk that Person B is unable to give consent, and then Person A has sex with Person B, that's pretty much rape. If Person B voluntarily and with no coercion gets so drunk that they lose the ability to give consent, and then Person A has sex with Person B, then Person A is kind of slimy but shouldn't be guilty of rape.

Edit: I'm a little on the extreme side when it comes to alcohol, but I won't even have sex with my girlfriend if I think she's too drunk to give consent. Not because she would accuse me of rape (she most certianly wouldn't, and rolls her eyes whenever this comes up in conversation), but because I would feel as if I were violating her, and that would be just about the worst thing ever.

That's always the sticking point. I offer you free drinks, and you take them. Is that intentionally getting a person drunk? Coercion can be quite difficult to ascertain. If you drug their drink then it's crystal clear. But just offering another free drink is quite a gray area.

This is my take on it. It's sleazy and despicable, but I maintain that it isn't rape. For one thing, getting that drunk is a choice.


I don't drink, nor do I attend parties where there is drinking (which unfortunately is almost every party). I'm not sympathetic to people who put get themselves into trouble by way of alcohol.
