What about the fit on the button downs? I've never seen a button down that fits me without being huge. I've gone to stores and tried some on but no dice. Need a European cut or something.

Although I feel your pain - trust me, these are rich man's problems you are having.
First, try different fits, from different brands. Then, when you see the one that fits you the most, get a shirt that sits right on the chest and shoulders, and is fittable, and then get it and yourself to a tailor.

This thread reminds me of the facebook posts and blogs of 14 year old girls. Very......feminine of you Al.Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.-Isaiah 41:10

So just use your imagination... after all, you imagined those yellow shorts might look good on you. Only if you were advertising Chiquita Banana milkshakes....Vive la liberte. Noor Inayat Khan, Dachau.

Al, listen to Az. You have a somewhat goofy face, you have to compensate for that with smart clothing. What you're wearing right now is goofy. One pair of your shorts looks like swimming trunks, the other causes epilepsy in kids.Graffiti in a public toilet

Adapting to summer is easy for the gentleman.
The suit ceases to be dark wool, and becomes off-white linen.
The twill shirt is replaced by the poplin shirt.
The black derby shoes are replaced by brogues in reddish brown.
The Fedora is replaced by a Panama, and the job is done. The genesis of the "evil Finn" concept- Evil, evil Finland

I feel I should point out for the benefit of those misguided enough to believe that 'fashion' or wearing clothes that don't appear to have come only from Walmart or Target, is not something that only gay men are interested in. In the United Kingdom, 'fashion' or being particular about the kind of clothes you wear, is (and has been) both a working class and ethnic minority interest- regardless of sexuality.

Well, if Al were British, I'd say okay, you're right. But on this side of the pond...ehhhh. I mean, I know straight guys who like nice clothes, but mostly they're just ambitious types who like them as an expression of personal success/power. I.E., the Perry Ellis/Ralph Lauren suit is nice because it says "I could own your ass," not because of line or color or anything. Actually getting into clothing isn't really a straight thing in any part of America I've been to.
Also, most of the shots Al posted make him look like the Easter Bunny's gay cousin or something. Sober up on those colors, man. We're not birds--bright colors are for female display.

I guess GQ and Esquire don't exist in America... because American men have no interest in fashion"Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

It's possible that there are genuinely straight men who are into that kind of thing. All I'm saying is, they're a definite minority. Most of us care about clothing to precisely the extent that it will get us laid or promoted.
