To be honest I've almost stopped thinking of moderate Republicans as Republicans (though it's hardly fair to let the extremists steal the party name), but I do try and refer to 'hard right' when I remember to make the distinction. It's just sad that the current GOP leaders have moved so far right that they actually do support Rush and his incendiary rants and frequently launch their own which are nearly as bad.Originally posted by rah View PostIn all fairness then you can't attack repugs with what Rush says. I and many other Repugs do not support him or any of his incendiary rants.
Party needs to get destroyed in November and rebuilt with traditional Republicans, it's the only way this madness is going to (hopefully) stop.

Ask DOJ. Maybe Holder will respond to the Zimmermans letter requesting his investigation into the matter."Just puttin on the foil" - Jeff Hanson

That's your own bias. The last presidential nominee was not an extreme wacko, and neither is the current one. So while wackos make a lot of noise, I don't think you can say they have taken over the party. Though they do make the rest of us look silly. And yes, it way past time to shut them up a touch. But the party isn't going to implode until an extreme candidate is nominated and gets so slaughtered in a national election that they are forced to see the light. To be honest I've almost stopped thinking of moderate Republicans as Republicans
Not that different then the Dems. The extreme left makes a lot of noise but they are far from being in control of the party. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Probably although as I'm a Uk conservative it's not like I'm looking at it as a radical lefty.Originally posted by rah View PostThat's your own bias.
I actually liked McCain quite a lot, but Romney will say whatever he thinks he needs to to get elected, and whilst he's not a crazy himself I fear he'll further the crazy agenda if it gets him political capital.Originally posted by rah View PostThe last presidential nominee was not an extreme wacko, and neither is the current one. I'm afraid of that, but I'm hoping that the TP has had enough of an influence that the defeat can be laid at their door. you're probably right though, which then takes us to 2020 before sanity can be restored.Originally posted by rah View PostBut the party isn't going to implode until an extreme candidate is nominated and gets so slaughtered in a national election that they are forced to see the light.
Not even close. The Democratic party has moved right not left while the GOP has turned hard, hard to the right. This is probably also why I now feel aligned to the Dems rather than the Republican party. Well that and the whole 'turning into a damn hippy with age' thing.Originally posted by rah View PostNot that different then the Dems. Fortunately that's not going to happen. Even if by some chance he gets elected, it will be so close that he won't be able to claim a mandate and Dems will easily be able to frustrate any really crazy stuff.Originally posted by kentonio View PostI actually liked McCain quite a lot, but Romney will say whatever he thinks he needs to to get elected, and whilst he's not a crazy himself I fear he'll further the crazy agenda if it gets him political capital.
Agreed. I don't think the crisis has been reached yet. Yes and no. I somewhat agree but both extremes have always made noise. The beatings the dems took previously taught them considerably. Middle wins. The repugs still haven't learned that lesson completely. Eventually. I just hope not too eventually. Who are these "current GOP leaders" who actually support Rush and his incendiary rants and frequently launch into their own? Mitt Romney? John Boehner? Mitch McConnell?Originally posted by kentonio View PostTo be honest I've almost stopped thinking of moderate Republicans as Republicans (though it's hardly fair to let the extremists steal the party name), but I do try and refer to 'hard right' when I remember to make the distinction. Oh please, if someone says something outrageous and you're asked to comment and the best you can come out with is 'I'll just say this, which is, it's not the language I would have used' then you're tacitly agreeing with the basis of what they're saying. To think otherwise is ridiculous.

Even so. Agreeing with someone on an issue is not that same as supporting them. Every now and then Obama says something I agree with, but I don't support him.
I agree with maybe 2 or 3% of what comes out of Rush's mouth but I still consider him a douche. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

If you were a public figure though and were directly asked about your position, then your response would constitute either approval or disapproval, unless you managed to wriggle out of answering. I think it's more important when its a negative thing rather than a positive one that is at stake too.Originally posted by rah View PostEven so.
