I note that you appear to use "important" as a synonym of "catastrophically God-awful".

What is your problem with Sting?

      Yes, I'm serious. Please explain.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Well, he did criticize Sting as a lyricist. I don't know the whole Police repertoire, but Every Breath You Take is kinda creepy. It's right up there with Blondie's One Way or Another ("I...will...drive past your house, and...if...you're not around, I'll eat all your peeeeeets.").

I'll hold up "Englishman in New York" as a particular war crime against culture.

              Take this couplet-

"And you can hear it in my accent when I talk
I'm an Englishman in New York"

Apart from being crashingly fatuous, he also makes it rhyme. Which is, of course, flatly impossible in absolutely any English accent. Then he follows it up with.....

"Confront your enemies, avoid them when you can"

C'mon Sting! Make your mind up! You can't avoid people confrontationally.

                ex-hater'd

It's meant to be creepy. It's about a nasty, controlling stalker ex.

I suppose you think Paul Simon is catastrophically godawful as well.

                    Only his post-1970 output.

                    Seriously, what about this?

"This is a story of seven brothers
We had the same father but different mothers
We keep together like a family should
Roaming the country for the common good
It came to pass one faithful day
We found ourselves down Mexico way
The town, the mayor, the P.T.A.
Pleading on their knees with us all to stay
We'd only stopped for a few burritos
But they told us of the trouble with los banditos
A poor little town in need of aid
My brothers and me had never been afraid
The age of chivalry is not dead
Lomesome nights in a coyboy bed
There'd be a bride for every man
Who chased away the evil gang

                    Love is stronger than justice
Love is a big fat river in flood

                    The outcome was predictable
                    Our banditos were despicable
Of blood we lost a dozen litres
A small price to pay for las senoritas
The town mayor was happy but his face was glum
                    The maidens numbered only one
But there weren't seven brides for seven brothers
I knew I had to get rid of the others

                    Love is stronger than justice
                    Love is thicker than blood
                    Love is stronger than justice
Love is a big fat river in flood

Mother told me I was the clever one
The seventh son of a seventh son
                    It all ended so happily
I settled down with the family
I look forward to a better day
But ethical stuff never got in my way
And though there used to be brothers seven
There other six are singing in heaven

                    Love is stronger than justice
Love is a big fat river in flood"

Is there any bizarre re-writing of the laws of physics where that isn't just embarassing?

Interesting way to put it, considering that it's about Quentin Crisp.

Given that "Rabbit [and pork]" is supposedly rhyming slang for "talk", it would appear to rhyme in cockney.

Anecdotally, I pronounce York and talk in a similar way. I would pronounce talk and torque the same way, for example.
