  • This whole primary has been Mitt Romney playing whack-a-mole with various less qualified challengers.

    • That's assuming Romney had any role in their downfall, which he clearly did not. There's nothing Romney did that caused those candidates to drop out. In fact, it was Romney's own presence in the race that caused their rise to begin with.

      • That's patently false; witness the attack ads against Gingrich in Florida and elsewhere, for instance.

        • Witness the attacks against Romeny in Georgia. Get real.

Conservative voters have admitted that they will hold their nose, if Romney becomes the candidate. Even McCain has acknowledged that Romney is a disappointment while calling him the best of a horrible bunch of candidates. The other candidates got their momentum from being "Not Romney," just as Romney hopes to win the general election by being "Not Obama."

          • Gotta side with DaShi on this one. The GOP base is not satisfied with Romney at all; even goddamned Donald Trump was leading the polls at one point.

              • Al, the main problem the base had with Romney is the lack of a perceived ideological core to the positions he's taken. It's the reason the Etch-a-Sketch statement from his spokesman got so much play. Remember this is the same base that was begging Chris Christie to get in who's arguably just as moderate.

To be honest, I think that's because most of the GOP base just saw the aggressiveness and had no idea that Christie was someone they'd call a RINO.

                    • And why people on both sides saw Huntsman being reasonable and conciliatory and assumed he was liberal despite, from what I hear, his policies still being pretty darn conservative.

This is so true. They just wanted someone to be aggressive and start spouting things that they like even if it was nonsense or ultimately wasn't very GOP. As long as it was anti-Obama they loved it.

Huntsmen never got a turn because he spoke too much sense and didn't buy into the tea bagger nonsense (Obama is a secret Muslim, foreigner, who faked his birth certificate, is a secret terrorist sleeper agent, and who also wants to kill your grandma by giving her health insurance) AND because he's a Mormon. That was two strikes against him; they prefer people like Bachmann who are certifiably insane but says the loony **** they like and who worships the same cult idols they do.

Either way I can't say I would ever vote for a Mormon or an evangelical simply because that's just too much bat**** for me.
