Not really. It's been so bad that I'm considering not identifying myself as a repug anymore. This is not my party anymore.

You'd rather have an ex-KGB Russian dictator than Mitt Romney? You cannot be serious.

Just admit that's stretching things a bit far.

It does show however that the GOP's current political discours has somewhat alienated the more sane members of your society.

No, I believe that Romney can't beat Obama. With Obama polling as low as he currently is, I can't believe we can't find someone that can beat him. It's just ridiculous.

And the rest left in the race aren't any better.

I'm ashamed to be a repug.

That he won't energize the base enough to get the turnout a REPUG needs to win. To many repugs will have issues voting for a Morman. The anybody but Romney act that's been going on is another symptom of the same issue.

And any race where Newt can get traction means your primary candidate must really suck.

If Romney was a moron instead of a mormon he would be the next president.

You underestimate how much the GOP base loathes BO.

Newt's "traction" is largely due to his debate performances and even then he's been reduced to stealing talking points from Michael Moore to attack Romney with.

Krauthmmers latest article is dead spot on. The validation of the dreck class warfare arguement by Newt strikes at the heart of the GOP. Moreover, not just Romney in particular but those who believe strongly in non governmental interference in the market. While I may have been luke warm on Newt until these comments it would definitely be a hold my nose "anyone but Obama" vote now. In essence he poisoned the well significantly with this line of attack all for his own gain. In either case, the eventual nominee is weakened as a consequence of the validation of line of attack by the often titled "smartest man in the room".

If Romney, the whole Gordon Gecko line of reasoning will be repeated in nauseating fashion.

If Newt, the whole flip flop lieing no principles scumbag approach will be used as he says what he needs to at the time, whether it is to his wife or the voters. He cheated on his wife and he cheated on his supposed fellow travelers, the free marketeers.

On this poiint I agree. Which is why I think Romney must be the choice. If Newt no way in hell he attracts enough independents. ALthough as I alluded to earlier, teh stupid populist points he validated make it much more difficult for Romney to appeal to the independents, not that Newt ever had a chance with them.

Does anyone else here frequently catch himself thinking of Gingrich as "Rush"? I seriously do it all the time; my brain just can't be bothered to tell the fat pompous lying racist right-wing braggart who exudes slime and is running for president from the fat pompous lying racist right-wing braggart who exudes slime and does a radio talk show.

You know, the more I think about it, the more I wonder if perhaps it's Gingrich, not Paul, who should be treated as the "long-shot" candidate. I think that, given the state of the economy, Romney, Paul or Senator Pooplube could conceivably beat Obama. Gingrich is possibly the only candidate with the ability to make himself more disliked than the incumbent in the few months remaining.

Why? Because he's racist. Not just a little racist, we're talking troglodytic levels of ignorance and xenophobia. Yes, that may well be true of the other three as well, but the crucial difference is that the other three are at least cognizant that their racist views are, in fact, racist. Gingrich is so far gone that he can't even fathom how his views might be construed as offensive. We're talking about a man who recently offered to address the NAACP on the importance of living off of paychecks instead of foodstamps--you know, like lazy black people do--then got offended by the ingratitude when the proposal was greeted with howls of rage.

So, if Gingrich wins the GOP nomination, here's how it's going to go down: he's going to look at his poll results and find that his numbers are disturbingly low among the very large Hispanic population. To fix this, he will (ignoring any and all protests from less delusional staffers, because of course he's smarter than them) air an ad reaching out to the community in atrociously poor Spanish. In this ad, he will offer to help Latinos by, say, distributing free personal hygiene kits at fruit farms around the country. He will be horribly offended when this does not work as intended, saying several more ill-advised things in his anger. When he finally realizes that acting huffy is not working, he will change tactics and apologize in more terrible Spanish. And you just know it will be a backhanded, not-really-an-apology apology.

He's already lost basically the entire Black vote, if he hasn't re-mobilized it for Obama against him. Toss in the Hispanic vote and actual liberals and moderates who don't like racism, and he's facing a terribly strong and united opposition.
