if anyone is actually seeking some sort of understanding from christianity in this thread, old and new testament are completely different books from different eras (well, technically so are all books within the old testament) and should be criticized separately

VJ, actually that's not correct. You cannot understand the books seperately like that. You have to read the whole Bible and understand it in context.

They do, and they breed like rabbits. They are a much more important threat to the existence of Israel than Arabs, as they are a money drain, don't serve in the army, are a growing voting block and you can't kill use armoured dozers against them.

But the fact is, the Bible says lots of stupid sh*t. Perhaps some good sh*t. But it demonstrates that it is not an infallible text and should be relegated to nothing more than a historic document and not a basis for living your life or running a society.

I've heard it before, and it makes no sense. Why don't the ultra-orthodox serve in the IDF?

Well, because they are smart about how to get out of service. IDF allows for deferment for serving if in Yeshiva (kinda like seminary training) and then you are exempt if married. Most ultra-Orthodox marry young and they are usually in Yeshiva during that time.

They have 15 out of 120 seats, so that's a sizeable presence, especially compared to Shinui that has 0.
Shas has 10. United Torah Judaism has 5.

It IS the same reasoning. You pick Biblical passages that prescribe certain morals and think they ought to be legislated into law today.

So how do you decide what God wants you to do? Do you ask your priest/pastor/minister/whatever or something...?

If we were able to live by the laws set out in the Bible I guess God would never have had to send his son to earth to die.

He just does whatever he pleases, and rationalizes it later. Like the rest of us.
