How about pharynx or even esophagus?

Even excessive tea drinking is supposed to correlate to increased cancer risk so I can't imagine smoking anything regularly - marijuana included - is completely harmless.

Nobody said anything about marijuana being completely harmless. The study didn't find any evidence of lung damage. Throat damage is beyond the scope of the study.

Actually it was smoking an average of one joint / day over a 20 year period of time. Marijuana contains up to 5 times the amount of certain carcinogens and toxins found in a typical cigarette, so basically smoking 1 joint / week might be about as toxic as 5 cigarettes / day. Five cigarettes / day over 20 years would be 5 pack-years. Most studies of cigarette smoking don't show conclusive significant damage to the lungs in populations smoking less than 10 pack-years, nor would the risk of cancer or heart disease be clearly increased. Interestingly the study stated that there was an indication of some lung damage in subjects smoking more than 2 reefers / day for 20 years, but the number of subjects was too small to be conclusive. It sounds like they just didn't try hard enough, It would be interesting to study some Rastafarians.

So Dr Strangelove, if it takes two joints a day for twenty years to see harm, would that mean "There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision?"

I'm just saying, hey. I think the biggest health hazard concerning marijuana is the people you have to associate with to acquire it, at least that seems to be the case where I'm at.

73% of the population exhibit heightened levels of hippy-like behaviors when under the influence of pot.

I'm guessing you smoke more than 1 joint per day as well without regard to the damage that you're caused to your body.

Hippies have done more to ruin the image of marijuana than any conservative campaign.

My cigarette habit is a far greater menace to my body.

It tastes better in a joint.

Mexico drug war deaths over five years now total 47,515

Mexican officials say nearly 13,000 people were killed in violence blamed on organised crime between January and September last year.

This means there have been 47,515 drug-related killings since President Felipe Calderon launched his crackdown on drug traffickers in late 2006.
