A couple of years ago I was at the South by Southwest Film/Music Festival in Austin, Tx. I guy came up to me and tried to sell me marijuana. I found the nearest police and gave him a description of the guy. The Officer, simply told me that he would keep an eye out. He did'nt even write down my description.

Some traffic crimes are and some aren't. I assure you that if you drive 90 mph in a school parking lot you're going to jail.

Reckless driving is a combination of several small offenses that will land your ass in jail.

How does making recreational drugs illegal benefit society?

It has a very small impact on usage, and puts the profits from the production and sale of the drugs into the hands of criminals instead of tax paying businesses. In addition, taxpayer's money gets wasted paying for additional police and prisons.

In a two party system though how is either party going to stand up and admit that the last half century of fear mongering was just that? That all those billions were just pissed into the wind? Maybe you'll get a leader one day who will just ride a wave of popularity and do it, but for all the millions who would cheer, there are also millions who havn't tried it themselves and who have had it drilled into them that it's an evil gateway substance that destroys lives. Winding back all those years of propoganda is likely to take a lot more years.

To deny this is foolish.

Of course, it doesn't seem to be the case that it destroys more lives than tobacco or alcohol.
