This is without a doubt one of the stupidest games I've ever seen, from one of the stupidest people I've ever observed.

Seeing as how I have nothing more exciting going on in my life right now, I'll keep playing.

So after eliminating the states and cities correctly guessed, here is what we have left with my best guesses:

Athens - Colorado
Barnstable - Kentucky
Battle Mountain - North Carolina
Carthage - Tennessee
Elizabethtown - Virginia
Gastonia - New York
Grand Island - Maine
Havre - Mississippi
Lorain - Nebraska
Marion - Indiana
Nampa - Nevada
Rome - Idaho
Saratoga Springs - Georgia
Vincennes - Ohio
Washburn - Montana

How on earth did you get Harrington DE? I only knew that because I checked the map.

Actually MA, not far from Cape Cod.

Battle Mountain - North Carolina

In the middle of nowhere in Nevada, not far from Winnemuca. On the California trail along the Humboldt River.

Carthage - Tennessee

Carthage MS.

Elizabethtown - Virginia

Kentucky, out by Ft. Knox.

Gastonia - New York

Actually out in North Carolina.

Grand Island - Maine

There's a few Grand Islands the one I was looking for was in Nebraska.

Havre - Mississippi

MT actually. Haven't been there, but I have travelled through Montana.

Lorain - Nebraska

Ohio. Actually a pretty big port between Toledo and Erie.

Marion - Indiana

Yes, there's a Marion, but Vincennes is in Indiana. Actually an old French fort on the Ohio in the SW corner. I was looking at Marion VA.

Nampa - Nevada

One of the larger cities in Idaho. I've been there.

Rome - Idaho

No, but there is a Rome GA, just west of Atlanta.

Saratoga Springs - Georgia

Nobody got this one. It's in upstate New York.

Vincennes - Ohio

One state over.

Washburn - Montana

This one is ME, not far from the New Brunswick border.

These were all supposed to be hard, obscure places that don't really make you think of a particular state. Even if you live in the state, it would be unlikely you'd come across it. Witchita Falls was the largest, and Marion VA the smallest at about 3k people.

There are numerous solutions to this challenge if you don't have a rule to pick between duplicates. At first I thought it might be fun and BK had chosen the largest city with the name in every case, but then I realized he used Carthage MS instead of Carthage MO and this was totally stupid.

A valid complaint. I did it state by state without checking crosswise. Once I had the idea for the game.

I changed the list to reflect two things. One, no city under 20k. This unfortunately takes out Harrington DE and Battle Mountain NV, and a few others.
Two, state multiples are now only valid if Google says that it's the top pick for that name. This takes out Decatur IL which is probably the biggest example. This, unfortunately leaves only Dover DE, as the only valid option for Delaware (all the other cities are more prominent in other states, or are below 20k).

Plus I fixed the missing states. Chopped off KA, OK and CO from bad cut and paste. So now the quiz actually works.
