Should the Qur'an be Taught in American High Schools?
Teaching the Quran in US high schools would create a huge ****storm from all our xenophobic retards. So while it might have a long-term benefit, I'm against it. We've already got enough senseless drama distracting us from the real issues.

So... you're saying the Quran somehow manages to not exhibit a writing style, and cannot be analyzed?
Not a style that students will ever use, and therefor a waste of valuable time to teach as a whole or to analyze as a whole. As I say, selections from it are certainly worth looking at to provide context/examples in social studies or world lit.
The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty…we will be remembered in spite of ourselves… The fiery trial through which we pass, will light us down, in honor or dishonor, to the last generation… We shall nobly save, or meanly lose, the last best hope of earth.

The Quran is only properly in Arabic which is not something studied in US highschools. Any styles come from unimportant translations.
This may be your opinion, and the opinion of many Muslims, but it is by no means a truth. Turks read non-Arabic Korans, for instance, and no one seriously argues that they are not properly Muslim.

The King James Bible is horribly written. It's dull and does far more telling than showing.
Valid as a modern critique, but the language of the King James Bible was "contemporary" for far longer in its history than it has been archaic.
The real argument against the KJB should be that it is a poor translation, but that is only an issue for its religious users. The language is archaic by our standards but an excellent example of what first-rate English writing and vocabulary looked like in the early 1600s.

No, this poor type of thinking is exactly what I'm trying to root out.
Religion shouldn't be taught as the truth in public K-12 schools. That said, I have no problems with some kind of Comparative Religions IB/AP course being taught in HS, or touching on(briefly) religion in history courses. The life of Muhammad was a pretty significant.
Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

There is no KJV of the Koran.

The bible was not taught in my elementary - high school but all of the teachers were christians and there was a definite promotion of christian is right and everybody else will go to hell. Sort of like if you were in school and after your lesson the teacher said "Allah be praised", even though he was not teaching the koran you knew his words were backed by Allah. That being said, I do not support religous indoctrination in elementary - high school. I think that it is smart for college students and adults to learn as much as they can about islam as some members of the religion hate us and would like to see us dead, so it would be good as an adult to understand why and what can be done to overcome it. However, teaching kids religion in school is a bad idea that I feel would and does lead to extremism.

there is an easy solution... three extra classes and a fourth voted in by the parents in school... class one - protestantism, class two - catholicism, class three - islam... fourth class is voted by the parents, an option from the other great religions... judaism, buddhism, hinduism, sikhism, paganism, atheism, scientology... and all the kids get all the perspectives... once you confront them like that it will be easy to figure out which one is the correct one
for protestant representation we also need a vote... with Mormons, and Jehowas Witnesses being in that category.. .further edit... and to be fair we should give the vote for catholic or orthodox in that category, and to sunni or shia islam in third... so that everyone can feel empowered. I'd like to see that implemented in Alabama first, and broadcast the classes on TV. It would be a blast to watch.

Better would be to form teams in PE based on religious affiliation. This will help children to be better prepared for real life situations such as holy wars (dodgeball) and witch hunts (hide and seek).

Funny you post that. Friday, the day before the BYU-Utah game, known as The Holy War, students from both schools set a world record for the largest game of, you guessed it, Dodgeball.
I would also suggest fighting in sumo outfits. This will help our children to come to grips with how life will be once they (unavoidably) all become extremely obese.
