  • Yep. They were trying to rape me for money.

They also told me at the time I couldn't apply a new grad discount, the factory to dealer incentives, etc.

This is why I find your kind less than fully intelligent. Spreadsheets and numbers over common ****ing sense. I've virtually zero risk. Any assclown could determine that.
Irrelevant to the quoted part. Can you actually read?

      • Yes. Can you?

I understand higher risk = higher rate. I also understand the stupidity of asking someone to pay more when you doubt they can pay the lower amount.

        Do you understand that?

        • Because if you are considered too risky to pay X per month, obviously you have to pay X + $100 per month.

What common sense suggests that any other outcome should occur?

I understand the financial concepts behind why this is done. I also understand the stupidity of the situation.

              • Finance people love risk - as long as they calculate it, and cost it into a product. More risk = more potential profit. Low risk is meh.

Considering how liquid you seem to be, I don´t understand why you don´t just pay for the car with cold hard cash. Borrowing costs money.

                • I've tens of thousands of dollars in my chequing account and could pay cash for the car right now. But I'm going to spend most of it in the coming months furnishing my new home so I'd like the cash for that.

But it makes more sense to have the original 2.7% finance rate on the money than to buy in cash -- it's a very low rate. Lower than the low mortgage rate. That was my original plan.

The rate is higher now, of course. What I'll likely do is spend the money I need to in Jan/Feb on the house, dump the rest into the loan and probably pay it off fully in the next year or year and a half.

                  • Or, you finance the house decoration with the mortgage - that's what I did. Reason being, I can deduct mortgage interest, so essentially I get zero interest.

                    • Already added $40,000 in upgrades to the mortgage. I don't want to add more.

Since it is a wildly successful business strategy (it has literally persisted for thousands of years) I don't think you're the one using common sense here.

                            • No ****, a strategy that involves taking on large risks for large returns sometimes fails?

I honestly don't think you are capable of understanding my point; you are too numbers-oriented to grasp the high-level reasoning.

As I've said several times now, I understand its business strategy and I understand its financial basis. But if you actually think about it, it is remarkably stupid. That's not to say it's not effective.
