People have some misconceptions about the Rav4.

    • How the hell does the latter car have such poor fuel economy? My car is more powerful and gets twice the distance for the same fuel. Are all American cars this sh*t?

      • Short answer, yes. Something about fuel used to be very cheap over there.

        My hybrid does 35-40 mpg.

That's right. Although I needed to get stuff sorted out and then had to head back Oop North so I didn't get to stay for long. Must say though, Cardiff looks really cool Kicks Birmingham's arse anyday. Still prefer Manchester though

But yeah, looks like you've got yourself some nice wheels buddy There are always people out there who'll begrudge you of something nice.

What do you have? That doesn't sound particularly impressive if it is a hybrid...although if you have one of those big Lexus things for example then it isn't bad at all

Oh, well. There is still the beemer.

It's a much larger vehicle so more weight means less fuel economy. Also I doubt your vehicle has 4WD.

You would get double taxation relief, at a guess. I would think you would only pay tax in the US to the extent that Canadian taxes are lower. e.g. if the Canadian rate is 10%, the US 15%, you would pay 10% to Canada and 5% to the US. If the Canadian rate is 15%, the US rate 10%, you would pay 15% to Canada and nil% to the US.

Wouldn't surprise me if the US has screwed up rules though.

Edit - seems the US has odd rules, and you can exclude $91k. hmmmm.

One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

                • Asher resigned his US citizenship just so he wouldn't have to pay US taxes while living in Canada.

Honda Civic, didn't buy it because I'm a treehugger, but because of the mpg.

Interestingly, this hybrid doesn't use the electric power to move around at city speed. Instead, that power is used to give it extra juice when accelerating (which coincidentally is when most gas is used).

Interestingly, it's easy for North Americans to use tax havens on the European continent, and vice versa.

You'd get better with a diesel. Hell, my car can do that. You were had. Personally I've never been particularly impressed with hybrids, I think you are better off with just a more efficient engine. And lord knows what the environmental costs of making those fuel cells are too...and the additional expense of buying a hybrid.

                        • I'm still 5 years away from going hybrid or EV. In 5 years I'll look at replacing my Mazda3 and will evaluate then. But I'm wary of the longevity/repair costs of the tech right now.

                          • Don't forget in all these discussions that USA gallons are smaller than UK gallons. I don't know what size gallons they use in Canada.

Wait. So this is for your boyfriend and you're still driving around in a Mazda 3? Wow! Both of my cars are still better than yours.
