“In a democracy, I realize you don’t need to talk to the top leader to know how the country feels. When I go to a dictatorship, I only have to talk to one person and that’s the dictator, because he speaks for all the people.” - Jimmy Carter
Probable reason? ... I think it’s very important for Democrats especially to remember this, that if Hitler had not come along, Franklin Roosevelt would have left office in 1941 with an unemployment rate in excess of 15 percent and an economic recovery strategy that had basically failed. - Larry Summers

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
trying to push this country to default on it's constitutional obligation to pay its debts. Eat **** and die.
The question is whether the bill can be paid by lowering revenue or cutting spending. The tax increases won't increase government revenue. Instead, just the opposite.

Tax increases won't pay off social security or other entitlement programs. Those cost of those programs will not increase in line with GDP. It will outstrip it as the population ages.
Plus, if you don't pay off the debt how will you afford to keep paying for your Cowboy Poetry festivals?
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

What tax rate will maximize government revenue, and what equation(s) do you use to arrive at that number?
I'm assuming that you don't believe that a tax rate of zero will maximize government revenue, so there must be some non-zero tax rate that is ideal. I'm also assuming that you'll have pulled this number out of thin air, but am willing to be surprised.

Given that revenues increased after the Bush cuts, increasing them from their current values will lead to a reduction in government revenue. Especially during a recession.
Or you can be like Obama and want to go back to the FDR days with a 90 percent tax on high earners. Worst president ever.

But tax revenue increased after Clinton raised taxes to where they were before Bush lowered them. OMG it's a paradox!
Given that Bush's tax cuts must have been the reason tax revenues went up, and Clinton's tax hikes must have been the reason tax revenue went up in the 90's, we can infer that any adjustment of taxes causes revenue to increase. Congress should raise taxes by 2%, then lower them back to where they were, and repeat that an infinite number of times. Unlimited tax revenues!
I am shocked that Ben would lie about the effects of the Bush tax cuts
Revenue went up from 2002-8.
Where's the beef?
