No. You went wrong by only looking at yourself and you wanted. Never did you ask if she wanted to have diner, you weren't even interested in what classes she was taking (a clear opening to broaden the conversation and MAYBE ask her out after you showed genuine interest in who she was as a person). If you are only interested in what you want and bluntly convey this message, seriously dude, I am not surprised you are still a virgin.

Asking questions like that and having a full 3 hour long conversation and being a 'male girlfriend' instead of a man of action is exactly what I should NOT be doing.

It was a bad approach but I do like he is actually taking initiative. Next time simply say I would like to take you out on a date, do it in person not via text, and then settle the details after she's already said yes to the idea of a date.

Nah, man. You don't ask. You tell. You also assume the sale. You don't go asking, "Do you want to meet up, etc."? then worry about details later. You assume the sale. For example, instead of going, "Would you like to meet up sometime? (Yes) What would you like to do? (I don't know) We can get something to eat. Where do you want to go? (I don't know)", etc., you drive to the point, "I want to know when you are going to let me take you out..." as soon as she expresses some affirmation, you assume the sale in its entirety and pose the question of the details such, "Chinese or Italian?"

That's how you sell yourself.
