      Yes, I understand this.

But the common areas are shared. When I want to use the kitchen, nobody better be in it. Same with the TV, etc.

Hmm, I said mouth goes down, but I think I actually usually do mouth goes up. It really depends on how clean your cabinet is. If the glasses are put away slightly wet, obviously mouth down.

I also prefer to live with someone. It is better, unless you have a completely horrid housemate. Which I have only had once.

I intend to live with others all my life, if i can help it.

Sure, if you want rings in your cabinet.

It's weird, but I've always faced them up. I just never considered the dust implications.

Up, obviously. Mouth down is likely to damage the lip of the china.

                  I do up as well.

I've never had dust a problem in a cupboard.

Should you have a dust problem in your cabinetry, the dust would also settle on the bottom while the cups were in use/being washed. Thus y'all are dunking your freshly washed cups into the very dust you fear.

Indeed. In my experience, the bottom of the cabinet is where most of the dust is and it's also far dirtier than the air.

Down, and over a regularly laundered piece of towel, used specifically for this.
