There are five books out right now so it would start happening as soon as they run out of five books worth of material. I believe they got half way through book three in season 3 so if they really slow stuff down they could do half a book per season (which would be screwed up as the kids would get too old for their roles) but if they did that they could potentially go five more seasons. The first two seasons were a book each and that seemed the right pace though the TV show may have trouble dealing with the Mureen Knot where GRRM had two different books covering two different story lines but both happening at the same time. I image the TV show can't do that so they'd have to integrate book four and five showing half of each for two seasons. Other wise viewers might get confused about the order of events.Originally posted by DinoDoc View PostSo how soon will the show be forced to start deciding what happens on its own?Last edited by Dinner; January 10, 2014, 01:08.

There are still a ton that happens in them. Far, far more than half a season each. It's going to be 2 seasons. 1.5 at least.Originally posted by Robert Plomp View Postbook 4/5 aren't as action packed as book 3 was.
It's assumed by most that it'll be 1 season.

More importantly, they both sucked. Still, there's enough stuff to mandate more than one season.

book 4/5 aren't as action packed as book 3 was.Originally posted by self biased View Postso you're thinking they're going to condense about two thousand pages into a single season, when they split book 3 into two seasons?
are you high? i get that they might 'combine' books four and five, but that's... at least three seasons worth of material, minimum.
It's assumed by most that it'll be 1 season.

So how soon will the show be forced to start deciding what happens on its own?Originally posted by Dinner View PostHe supposedly had most of the Winds of Winter written when a Dance with Dragons was released as he had to cut a Dance with Dragons in half. I truly hope it is released in 2014 but given the man's track record and the fact that his Not A Blog shows him doing a million and one things other than writing the ****ing book everyone wants... Well, I wouldn't be surprised to see Book 6 come out in 2020.

A good friend of George R.R. Martin has said (most probably by accident) that George had one new episode almost finished.
He has also cleared up his schedule for the next coming months.
There is more.
So let's go with the 2014 release for Winds of Winter, and then a 2017 release for Dream of Spring (same 3 year gap)
Then we have:
2014: Season 4: Book 3b / Book 6 released
2015: Season 5: Book 4/5
2016: Season 6: Book 6
2017: Season 7: Book 7 / Book 7 released
If HBO decides to split Book 4/5 somehow into 2 seasons (2015 book 4a/5a, 2016 book 4b/5b) then we're certainly safe. It's also possible that book 6 needs 2 seasons, or book 4/5/6 need 3 seasons in total.
If the rumors are true, and Winds is indeed released in 2014 and Martin can manage the release the last book in 2017, then we're looking at a photo finish between book and series. (And of course Martin can then already spill the beans to HBO while writing, so that the last season is in line with the book)
I absolutely certainly hope to finish the books for the series.
I doubt that it'll be possible to not spoil myself while waiting for the books while the series are already finished....

You're missing the point. You can't link an individual event and its severity to global warming since there's just no way of knowing whether it'd happened without global warming, but this is exactly what a lot of people are doing. And by doing that they give room for detractors of global warming to also use individual events (that at least have the appearance of refuting global warming), or the lack of events, to deny global warming. Shouting "Haiyan is because of global warming" degrades the quality of the debate to a level where deniers are on firmer foot, as weather is highly irregular regionally and in the short term. The Atlantic hurricane season was the quietest since 1950, for instance.Originally posted by MikeH View PostSee my previous post. Neither are "caused" by global warming but both events are "affected" by global warming. To suggest that Haiyan was influenced by global warming isn't wrong, though it's reasonable to debate how much affect it had, but to suggest that this freeze is a refutation is completely and utterly incorrect.
Also, in general, being wrong about something doesn't mean you can't tell someone else they are wrong about another thing, that's not logical.
But yes, evidence is in averages. To suggest an event is or isn't caused by global warming is wrong thinking. As I said before all weather systems are occurring in a warmer (therefore more energetic) and wetter atmosphere, so all weather events are inevitably affected.
