  • My problem with cycling was:

    1. My bike got stolen.
    2. I could never push myself enough to sweat, it was too easy to relax. Even while relaxing, I start to sweat after 2 miles running.

The bike did get me home faster, though. I have often regretted not buying a new one.

    • You're sweating, but the air dries you. Cycling cools you down which is more efficient. Now your heart will tend to work harder running unless you plan to ride very fast but 170 bpm is plenty. You can get 180 to 190 bpm if you like although then you'll be tired in about 20 minutes.

      • When I am pushing myself, my goal is 170 bpm (or even 180, and just a couple of years ago it was 190).

When I am not pushing myself, I still hope to be getting to 150/140.

        • Oh yeah, I meant 170 bpm not 70, etc

          • When I bike, I doubt if my heart rate ever goes above 140.

            • Hmm, well some people don't do it right actually. But if your measuring you shouldn't have trouble.

              • There are circumstances where an ability to run is critical. I have outran muggers and I chased after that guy who beat down the woman.

This is why this complete aversion to physical training manifested by people here on Apolyton is so bothersome to me. There is a lot of good in being reasonably fit, or at least more fit than the average person. Life can throw physical challenges at you and not being in shape can leave you dead.

                • If only everyone could be fitter than the average person.

Yes, I remember running with you once. I had to start breathing through my mouth rather than my nose after you let one rip.

Yeah, you could learn to run to get out of these situations. Or you could, you know, get out of the sh*thole you are living in?

                          • I can do 3miles/30min pretty easily now. I think i'll try to get down to 25 min or so over the next month or 2.
