  • Running again

I have a 3.5 mile in two months. Aiming for 23 minutes. Nothing spectacular, but at least not shameful. I am about 90-100 seconds away currently. Hopefully I can make it. Lungs are not the same at 31 as they were at 25. Also, I'm about 15 pounds heavier. Mostly muscle, but oxygen does not discriminate. Is anybody else keeping track of their times currently?

I have ran 3.5 miles in roughly 6 months. My stopwatch broke so it's an estimate.

10k in about 50 mins. But I haven't been running, or should I say jogging, much at all in the last 6 months.

I am not keeping track of times, but yesterday and the day before were the first days I hadn't run in a while.

I run the ~5km to work (or back) in ~30 minutes.

Isn't running the worst kind of exercise you can do to your body?

                That and the sharks.

Timed 3 miles today (well yesterday; on Friday). 24:06 Sucks but it's surely getting there. Need it below 22:00 by September.

Only other current time I have is 5 miles the other day in 44:36 but that wasn't a run for time; it was an easier run to build up mileage.

                  I hate running distance

Probably not intrinsically since it's something we as humans evolved to do but the pounding your shins and knees take, particularly on concrete, can be very detrimental. As we all know, I developed fractures from running.

Tennis, as pansy as it looks, is one of the least healthy sports I know, it looks like it is impossible to really get into it without ending up with some kind of injury (elbow or wrist or shoulder or back or hip or knees)

In comparison, lots of people in my country play soccer and they don't seem to get injured from it at all and can continue playing it in their 40s

That's not what I saw from the World Cup.

I didn't mean getting hurt, in tennis you never get hurt, I meant getting injured in a way that may need surgery.

Amateur level soccer leagues can be rather brutal here. Playing on gravel in cold rain against a bunch of out of shape resentful guys who love to chop you down if they feel you think they're better than them because they're bitter they never amounted to anything. Wait it sounds like the start of a Yorkshiremen sketch but really it doesn't strike me as the healthiest hobby. The out of shape thing is possibly key though.

Now that people mention it, I started sitting again myself. I'm at 90 minutes in front of the tv now. I know, others manage to sit in front of their tv much longer, but I didn't train long sitting for a while so it is a start to go back in sitting shape again.
