No question for me, climbing stairs is way better. I probably walk up and down 20-30 flights a day in my house.

Running up stairs is better unless you have a specific run goal... well, and if you have the stairs...

How is that possible? How tall is your house?

My office is downstairs so I go up and down to the kitchen or check on the dog etc all day. I'm one of those people who cant sit still so it's easily 20-30 times. Then I also go up to the attic to shoot at the squirrels once or twice a day. From my office that's 3 floors each time.

3 miles today in 23:20... again, stupid redlights (and bumping into a pedestrian who I did the whole mirrored directions to get out of each others' way thing; on the final block when I was trying to sprint out the last bit) screwed me but my time is improving quickly That's a 44 second improvement since my last run two days ago.

Good pacing. The first half mile was in a little over 4, the mile at 8, the 1.5 at 12.

Yeah, it is time for me to hit the gym again from tomorrow now my move is complete to do some running. Actually I haven't stopped and I have still been swimming and running outside. But I needed to drive to get to my previous gym - now it is just a few minutes walk.

Do you have any idea how much damage squirrels can do? I'm giving em a fighting chance by using a slingshot! So far they havent taken the hint and left though.

I cycled for two hours yesterday, from home to my mother's house.

On Saturday, I did 4x400m sprints with 400m walk between efforts. My first and best time was 1:14.

According to this cool running calculator:

That means my 3 mile time should be 20:03 instead of 23:20 which was my most recent best time. I guess I got to push myself more.

Pretty cool calculator though. It tells you what your times at other distances should be based on your time at a certain distance.

Naming and shaming myself here. I have not run for 4 days. That is bad.

Jon, according to that calculator, as I suspected, if you could put together a 24:00 5K, you are capable of a sub-7:00 mile. According to the calculator, your mile time should be 6:55.

That calculator is probably much more accurate with something like that where it's a smaller difference between the distances (5K to 1 mile versus 400m to 3 miles) and going from endurance to speed. You can do a sub-7 mile and you probably have had sub-7 miles on 5K's before without realizing it.

It seems to be pretty good at judging distance times! I plugged in a 24min 4m which I did cross country and it spat out a 5:17 mile where my best time was 5:15 indoors. Not bad. The times for sprints seemed a little slower than I recall doing though. It came up with a 1:07 400m and I recall doing a low to mid 50's 1/4 mile. It also calculated a 1:04:00 10M which I doubt I coud've done. I was more of a sprinter who could push himself to exhaustion for a mid-distance run.

Yeah the farther out you compare, the less meaningful it is. I mean you can't use a 10 second 100m to make any judgments about a 10K time or vice-versa. It's pretty spot on when comparing more similar distances, though.
