It isn't possible to filibuster the federal budget, is it?

I'm having a hard time believing the Democrats were afraid to pass a bill that wouldn't have any negative consequences for them. This is really an enigma.

I think we've been through this twice already. Why didn't the democrats pass a budget when they had the chance?

"Heart" is no replacement for reality. The bill is a crap sandwich. It clearly won't meet any of its intended aims and is a budget buster.

I think most of them know it's a bad thing but the tea party radicals (well, there is no tea party, they just call themselves that because they wanted to pretend they weren't Republican even though they were all running on the Republican ticket) believe they need to in order to shore up their position with the right wing base. They are therefor deliberately trying to shut down the government. You know this is true because they keep moving the goal posts; they demand $32 billion in cuts, Dems give them $32 billion in cuts, then they demand $33 billion in cuts (Dems roll over again), now they're demanding $62 billion in cuts and they demand elimination of public radio/public TV/family planning assistance/culture war issues/etc... If you're serious about compromise then you don't keep changing the goal line but they keep doing that ergo they're not serious and they're trying to make sure no compromise is reached.

So what? They passed a continuing resolution last year which is passing a budget; it's passing a budget which funds everything exactly the same as the previous year so please give up your stupid talking point.

If you think $62 billion is going too far, you're in for a rude awakening when you realize that's a tiny fraction of our deficit.

If that's the case, why didn't they pass one for the entire fiscal year?

They did, you dunce. It's called a continuing resolution.

Yes, the house was burning down, and we passed a resolution saying we'll continue to let it burn. No problems here.

One of the joys of "checks and balances". No one is ever responsible as you can just blame the other guy.
