How the **** is it a waste?

There's a boatload of fine Marine officers we would have lost if people weren't allowed to do it twice.

Second-rate Marines who couldn't make it the first (or second) time are not worth it.

They should train their recruits efficiently instead of making them start over again and again. But of course they're more interested in feeling special.

What the ****? How are they second-rate? You break your legs. **** ****ing happens. That says nothing about your ability.

I was the ****ing truth at OCS my second time though. DI's would be like "Come here and show them how it's done." for whatever it was... setting up the hooches, drill movements, making racks, whatever.

My one sergeant instructor knew me from the first time and said something to me like "I'm going to love when I give you a chit." 7 weeks in before I broke my legs and he, nor the rest of the staff, had given me a single negative chit

My old platoon sergeant the first time through was my company gunnery sergeant the second time through. First night, I had firewatch and he walks in and I spit out what I need to and he says with almost a smile, "I see you're back. Now teach all these candidates how it's done."

That was a great way to start off my OCS class. I was filled with pride with that.

It makes no sense for me to give up. I ****ing got this.

            efficiently? How?

There are only 3 OCS classes per year. They can't recycle guys like enlisted boot camp can.

I saw the video. The Marines come off looking reaaaaaaly bad. And one of the way to "humiliate" the Army is by quoting someone saying "we will treat every recruit with dignity and respect"?! What the... ? I'd hope they'd treat American citizens with dignity and respect!

              Marines suck, Army is ok.

The military has two redundant branches. Only major difference being that one is stuck up and the other isn't. Let's save some taxpayer dollars by merging the marines into the army.

Okay here's another example. I did OCC-203 in the winter. We still had to do the water courses but they were frozen. The training staff blew up some charges to break the ice and ran us through.

Do you know how many guys got hypothermia? Do you know how many guys got sent to the hospital? How many had heart irregularities due to the cold?

Does that say anything about their ability to "defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic"? Does that say anything about their ability to lead Marines?

In fact, it was some of the better physical specimens who were jacked up because they had less body fat and their bodies couldn't handle the cold as well.

Put them in a summer class and hypothermia would never have come up.

That's funny... because our enemies sure don't treat American citizens with dignity and respect.

It is training. If you want these men to be able to handle combat, you think it's appropriate to treat them with dignity and respect and have movie time and get spoken to softly?

These DI's are in the business of making killers. How the **** can you do that if you treat them with your pinko concepts of dignity and respect?

You know not of what you speak, Imran

                      • Marine OCS is the toughest entry-level military training in the world. Flat out. No question about that. As a result, the 10-week course has average attrition of 30-50%. And that's considering that the majority of those interested are not even eligible to apply nor accepted. The best of the best as is are selected and cross that bridge and half don't graduate. It is doable, though, with hard-work, determination, and a little luck. The luck is where I received the short end of the stick.

However, the lessons from OCS are huge. I changed a lot for the better from the experience. I realized those limits that I thought were the extent of what I was capable of were wrong when I crashed through those limits and kept running. When you go through something like OCS and even excel at it like I did the second time, can anything in the world stop you?

It is hell for a reason. Every step you take is scrutinized. Everything you do is graded. They send you through hell to see if you break and what happens when you break. They beat you down to see if you come back up. As one of my sergeant instructors would say "You want to be officers? You can't break off Marines til you get broke off"

I talked to one of the shift managers and when I told him my name, he said he had heard of me and said he would try to get me to work at the store he's at because of my reputation. I applied and nothing weeks later. I do have the phone number of the new Area Manager in Philly so I could call him personally to see what's up, though, but would that be appropriate? Technically, I'm supposed to apply through human resources.
I'd say do it. There maybe something holding you back and the more information you have about it, the more you can do about it.

***** American Marines can't handle a little cold?

Bet the Canadian Forces could school them in that course.

Hey Asher, why don't you join the Canadian Forces, then, if you're so tough?

And did I say we couldn't handle it? I handled it just fine. The vast majority of us did. But there were a few who got hypothermia. Does that make them weak and unfit for service?
