I have two cousins that were in the Marines. Marines kill a man by foaming toxic venom from the mouth and spitting it on their adversary.

Yep mine was soft compared to those marines, but not as soft as those army troops. I had just one DI screaming and banging.

Go get a real job instead of sitting around unemployed and beating off about the marines.

            How about this one?

He forgot to give the greeting of the day

The last DI coming in saying "Louder!" sounds exactly like one of my DI's.

Better than beating off to a physics book.

I always assumed all the branches were like this, though. Interesting. I'm having my eyes opened about the Army.

What about getting slayed on the quarterdeck? Does the Army do that, as well?

Well if you (or the platoon depending on if they want to do group punishment) mess up or aren't loud enough or something, you have to do endless pushups and burpees and what not as recompense to the DI.

At OCS, they don't do 'quarterdecking' per se though it does sort of take place on the PT field as supplemental PT. They have probably worse alternatives, though, in the barracks... like holding the M16 outstretched in front of you by the 6-inch barrel for several minutes, holding a full ILB pack out in front of you, pulling back the charging handle on the M16 in such a way that oh my god it hurts, half-squatting 1 inch above your camp stool (this is far worse than it sounds... raise your butt out of your chair and hold that for 5 minutes and see how it feels), etc.

Basically pain and lots of it.

Oh and they're always one of those things where the DI after a while counts down... 10...9...8... and always some poor sap breaks and can't hold the M16 outstretched any longer (or whatever it is) and... "NO! X wants the platoon to keep going! Fine by me! Keep them up!" God that **** would suck.

Yea, I remember holding out the m16 having to recite about it. The m16 is a air cooled.........weighs...? lbs shoots 5.56mm blah blah.
If we got it wrong they would move on down the line. You would have to hold it up and out till they came back down the line.
                            Yes..pain!

Yeah it only weighs about 8lbs but held out like that and by the barrel, that 8lbs starts to feel mad heavy real fast.

And it's... (the mnemonic is LMGAS, by the way)

"Sir, the characteristics of the M16A2 service rifle are a light-weight, magazine-fed, gas-operated, air-cooled shoulder fired weapon capable of semiautomatic and three round burst. The M16A2 service rifle fires a NATO 5.56mm round with a maximum effective range on a point target of 550 meters. Maximum effective range on an area target, 800 meters. Rate of fire, cyclic: 800 rounds per minute, sustained: 12-15 rounds per minute. Weight with 30 round magazine: 8.79 pounds, sir!"
