Yes, you're not appealing to authority you're just saying "what he said" and asking that I refute him when you're too lazy to even summarize his arguments. Classic.

No, Americans select their government primarily based on the question of which party is in power and how the economy is performing, which is a socially useful strategy.
Errr. And how do Americans determine how the economy is performing. The news? Which channel is the most watched news channel in America?

With this sort of censorship power America would likely have exited Vietnam much later.

      • Let's say it's catastrophic like you said.

Can you provide one example of this catastrophic as it affected Canada since 1983, when it was enacted? There was that holocaust denier guy...that was a close one. Almost a catastrophe, amiright?

What else? If it's catastrophic it must be pretty obvious.

          Where do you get that?

If the media was not allowed to tell lies, the US would've exited Vietnam much later?

I'm not sure how my laziness affects the truth of the matter.

American voters are actually pretty good at looking around and figuring out their own local unemployment rate, in the aggregate. (Local unemployment rates are a significant predictor of voting patterns.)

If the government were allowed to censor media it claimed were lying.

              • You are bizarrely confident in the ability of your current government and all future governments to flawlessly decide what speech is a lie.

Flaw with your argument: the CRTC is not part of the government. Note how they waited 10 years before addressing a request from the then-government to toss that regulation.

                  • Then it is even more bizarre that you entrust the ability to decide the truth for all Canadians to it.

                    • btw, Venezuela is another great data point for "catastrophe"

Who said they decide the truth for all Canadians?

They only cover broadcast news. And it has to be pretty ****ing obviously a lie for it to get any traction, with tons of evidence to the contrary and not a shred in favour of it.

Additionally, you're being inconsistent. On one hand, you're arguing that it doesn't matter that the broadcast news may intentionally lie or otherwise mislead since people are good at voting without it. Yet now you think a law enforcing broadcast news to tell no obvious lies as "deciding the truth for all Canadians". Which is it?
