  • What's most amusing to me is that apparently Fox News is the most-watched of the cable news networks in the US. You think we shouldn't allow it to call itself a news source? That's adorable.

    • The WaPo is right-of-centre, in fact.

What kind of hamfisted logic is this? Fox News is popular with masses of idiots, ergo it can be called a news source?

If news is defined as factual, truthful reporting of events (which I think most of us would agree to), then the popularity of Fox News or the Weekly World News or The National Inquirer doesn't really affect that, does it?

            • How can logic be...hamfisted? Do you know what hamfisted means?

And we've already explained something like 30 times to your stupid stubborn brain why allowing news that Asher thinks is wrong is good. And why we should allow it even if Asher and his liberal entourage are always correct about what is true. Because it is inevitable that the government will ban things that challenge common misconception.

...now I'm ignorant? Some claims are so ridiculous that it isn't even worth attacking them. Their stupidity speaks for itself...such as your claim that WaPo is right-of-center. Maybe in Commieland...

Clumsy or lacking in elegance. It applies perfectly...

You either do not understand this discussion at all or you're being disingenuous. This has nothing to do with news that I think is wrong, it's about preventing authoritative broadcast news from reporting demonstrable lies as truths as proven in a court of law. It's very similar to your laws about slander and libel, except that it applies in general to perpetuating proven falsehoods and not just against a person.

And you've not explained anything "30 times", you've just repeated an ideology without any clear evidence of thought on your behalf. Unlike you, I don't adhere to dogma because "that's how it is".

                ...now I'm ignorant?
                Clearly.

You've got it twisted. If you think it's NOT right-of-centre (not necessarily fully right wing, just right-of-centre), then it's because you live in a bizarre corner of the world where your political spectrum is completely out of whack (which it is).

                          This supports Asher's argument.

Because they have prohibited lies and fictions being passed off as "News"? There's freedom of speech and then there is deliberately misleading "junk television". And Faux News certainly falls into the latter.

That's just half the problem. Americans don't really have anywhere to go to get informed. Yes, FOX is mostly lies and misdirection. But the other major news channels just relay fluff pieces. They don't ask the hard questions or look for the tough answers. Ironically, the only "news" show that comes closest to that in the US is the Daily Show. But it spends more than half its time, pointing out the lies in FOX news.
