An interview that he's posted on YouTube. An interview that's hilarious because this quiet woman is politely asking him questions, and he's acting just like he did in that video. The only reason it took "90 minutes" is because Ezra Levant wouldn't shut the **** up and stop ranting.

In February 2006, the Western Standard published the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons depicting Muhammad.[27] Syed Soharwardy of the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada and the Edmonton Council of Muslim Communities complained about the publication to the Alberta Human Rights and Citizenship Commission and a hearing was scheduled for January 2008. On the day of the hearing Levant republished the cartoons on his website.[25]

At the request of Levant and his lawyers Levant was allowed to videotape his interview with Shirlene McGovern, a human rights investigator with the Alberta Human Rights Commission. Levant later published that video on YouTube where it spent several days among the top-ten viewed videos. Soharwardy's complaint was ultimately withdrawn,[28] and a complaint he filed with Calgary police came to naught. An identical complaint by the Edmonton Muslim Council was dismissed by the Commission on August 5, 2008.

He's acting like he was hauled off to jail and raped.

I thought there was more to it than just an interview. I could be wrong. He is noisy.

      • At least Ben has a reason to go back now.

        • Here is Ezra Levant being flogged by the evil government in his harrowing interview.

I particularly like the bored, disinterested look by the evil government interrogator.

He's also been reprimanded by the Law Society of Alberta for unprofessional behaviour (which comes down to incessant lying, slander, and libel). He's also been successfully sued several times for libel, and has admitted and apologized to it on several occasions. He's making a career of running his mouth, making **** up, and being histrionic and people are giving him a platform to do so. It's shameful.

He makes it sound like it's much more than an interview. He throws in completely made up numbers (it cost Alberta $500K! It cost me $100K!). He was asked to come to a hearing by the commission, which evaluates whether the complaint has any merit. IF it has merit, it moves to a tribunal. His case never made it past the commission.

Being a government bureaucracy, it took a lot of time to resolve (2 years) simply because it took a long time to schedule the interview then it took a lot longer while the HRC "analyzed" it. All Ezra had to do was show up to his interview -- which as you can see from YouTube, the only reason it was so long and painful was because he was a furious child who would not stop ranting.

He's trying desperately to spin it like, in his words, it was some Communist or Fascist state. In reality, it was due process. A complaint was made, the HRC reviewed the complaint, the HRC dismissed the complaint before it went to tribunal. There was no prosecution, there was no crime. There's just Ezra trying to get some attention.

Now that the attention well has run dry from his stint at the Western Standard, he's now putting the comics up again to try to provoke more HRC issues in other provinces like Ontario.

            • Lawyers charge you $100k if you need help with a 90 minute interview? They must be loaded.

It's not even a criminal interview or interrogation. I cannot fathom why a lawyer who specializes in freedom of speech spent $100K to defend himself in this case. He never breaks down his costs, for obvious reasons.

Knowing Ezra, he's probably billing himself for his own time and arriving at $100,000.

                  • Why would anyone reports some cartoons to a human rights council anyway?

                    • In short, the Muslims groups find it morally offensive to depict Mohammad. They thought Ezra Levant was doing it to piss them off, which is probably true.

There was no basis for that being illegal in Canada, so the case was dismissed. He keeps *****ing about it like he was convicted of some crime, though.

                      • Another Ezra Levant fact: He supported the Canadian Government's decision to forbid George Galloway entrance into Canada. All while pretending to be an advocate of free speech.

The only speech Ezra Levant wants to be free is the Judeo-Christian, right-wing kind.

If there is no basis, or foundation, to the complaint, why did they interview him?

This is what the HRC determines. The interview is not prosecution.

I don't see this as a free speech issue; I see it as a sovereignty issue -- keeping out an undesirable foreigner who has no right to be here, and who boasts about violating our criminal code.

                                Good riddance.
