What the ****? Are you drunk?

Slow down... let's take a step back and let me describe what I believe has happened in this thread. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Sloww made some not well-thought out (apologies to Sloww) comment about Texas' population growing indicating that Texas must be doing something right.

Oerdin, you responded by nothing that Texas' population is growing because Texas is a large expanse of nothing and it is very cheap to live in Texas. In comparison, California is more expensive to live in so while people may prefer Cali to Texas, they can't afford to live in Cali and must instead live in Texas. You made mention of how cheap it is to live in places like Lubbock, Texas and mentioned housing prices in Lubbock.

Me, in an attempt to provide some concrete support for your position (as opposed to just your given anecdotes), provided a cost of living comparison between Lubbock and San Diego which decisively proved your point. San Diego is 70+% more expensive to live in and 30% more expensive than the national average whereas Lubbock is considerably cheaper than the national average. Therefore, it is easy to understand that people would flock to live in cheaper Texas than more expensive California, even if they would prefer California for reasons not pertaining to their wallets.

      WHAT THE ****?!

Sloww, look at my posts. Look how I correctly spelled LubbOck. Oerdin spelled it Lubbuck and notice in that post you quoted, I was quoting HIM and his mis-spelling ass! (see the " " marks?!). Did you need me to provide a (sic)?

          Oerdin, YOU'RE the ass.

          Sorry, Al.

Alpert, if you want to make an intelligent argument, look up the cost of living index in a part of Texas that is growing quickly instead of a place like Lubbock.

Lubbock isn't really a hotbed of activity.

For example, the overall cost of living in Plano is rated at 105. San Diego is 26% more expensive.

Plano is right next to me. In fact, my ex and my daughter both live there.

I swear. This is the typical dumb Apolyton ****. I ****ing provide something to support Oerdin's point and he starts attacking me for I don't know what, insulting me, rambling about berkshire hathaway... I don't even know how my post which supported his position could ever even be misconstrued as opposing his position to begin with! It was obviously in support of him!

And then Sloww starts calling me an ass because I 'misspelled' LubbOck when I in fact spelled it correctly in every post in my own words but maintained Oerdin's misspelling in a quote. Yet somehow, Sloww says nothing to Oerdin for misspelling LubbOck consistently anyway. That's what I get for ****ing maintaining Oerdin's ignorant misspelling.

See this that dumb Apolyton ****. This is how **** always goes down. I don't know what the **** is wrong with you people. I'm not a ****ing ****** and I'm not wrong on anything I've posted here. You people all don't know how to read, want to make up assumptions about what I meant, and spew insults. The only difference is certain people here like KH and Darius are tricky little bastards who can befuddle me whereas others like Oerdin or Sloww just aren't smart enough or good enough with word games to pull the wool over my eyes.

The hard truth, which you are desperately trying to avoid, is no one is fleeing California and instead what is happening is that poorer people can't afford $800k for a suburban home so they're most often reluctantly going to less desirable, lower in demand, states where they can actually afford to buy property. The reason why housing costs so much in most of coastal California is extremely simple. There is not enough land compared to the vast numbers of people who want to live here so the people who aren't successful enough to be able to pay top dollar are forced to settle on their second or third choice of places to live. Places like Texas.

In southern California, the most populous and in demand part of the state since... Oh, the 1940's... We're literally running out of flat places on the coastal plain where it is possible to build subdivisions. Here in San Diego the 4S Ranch development and the area due north of it, which is the new place to move for the upwardly mobile, is literally the last open flat space in the county on the coastal plain. The rest is either military bases, public land, or land owned by the government. There is lots of empty space on the other side of the mountains in the desert but most people don't want to live there while the mountains are steep with high slopes making them unsuitable for building new subdivisions. The basic problem is not enough land to fill demand so prices go up and those who aren't well enough off get pushed out. That isn't fleeing because the vast majority of those people would gladly stay if they could but a high school grade working as a truck driver or waiter just doesn't make enough money to live in a premier place like this. It's like wanting to live in Manhattan on only a menial job; it just doesn't happen. That doesn't change the basic economic fact that vast hordes of people want to live in Manhattan or coastal California and that truly massive demand is what pushes prices up.
So that is why California advertised to get people to come back.

Don't have the link for TV ads, however I haven't seen them in a while so perhaps conditions have improved out in CA.
