I apologized and still got griped at. I don't think that's very fair.

Fine, Sloww. I posted that post the same minute as you posted your correction. I accept the apology. However, this incident between myself, you, and Oerdin is but another example in a long-line of misrepresentations of my positions that has happened repeatedly on these boards. I'm sick of it. It is incredibly irritating to be called an idiot by people who put words in your mouth and misrepresent what you say and then others join in and it turns into a pile on even though I never said what I was accused of saying.

The only reason that I'm in it at all is because of Oerdin talking about Texas. I don't really care if he does, but I feel this sense of obligation.

Which is why I keep doing it. If I didn't get a response then it just wouldn't be nearly as much fun.

Woo! You can get a three bedroom, two bath house on a big lot in Lorenzo, TX for just $13,900 or less then the average cost of a used car. Clearly it's a highly desirable place to live and no one would be moving there because they're so unsuccessful they can't afford anything better. I guess someone has to live there though it's better them then me.

Just because California is popular doesn't mean nobody would choose to live somewhere else.

Ah, so the humans are dehumanized but included so people in the audience could have something to relate to. That makes a whole ****load of sense, thanks!

Again, that was the point. It was the people who became mindless automatons. It took the actions of the robots to change that. Seriously, why aren't you getting this?
Because it's just your spin to make a badly written movie sound cool? The movie takes a hard right (or perhaps left) turn and never recovers its initial magic. You apparently liked it anyway. Good for you, but your heightened ability to rationalize a bifurcated plot doesn't make you better than me--or whatever you're suggesting.

He represented the robot's adherence to their directives in the extreme. Wall-E, the malfunctioning robots, and EVE (eventually) all broke free from their "programming" to represent the individuality that humanity lost.

If anything, the autopilot's presence was the most anti-liberal message in the film (the idea of an unemotional nanny who knew what was best for everyone).
Ah, symbolism, stock crutch for inadequately drawn characters. Stupid character with unbelievable actions? No problem, IT'S SYMBOLIC! He doesn't need to have a coherent motive or character when he's a stand-in for pride/folly/capitalism/anthropologists/gay sex! Come on, lecture me some more about the correct elements of storytelling. Did I miss some obscure allusions too?

And I've stated that your stated reasons for disliking the movies seem to be more along the lines of your misunderstanding them and inability to relate to the characters and themes at the level that the vast majority has.

You're complaints just remind me of high school kids who simply don't like something because it is popular.
Well, thanks for educating me. Would you like to tell me about the deep layers of meaning behind your favorite boring anime as well, or are you done assuming my dislike for your whiny Hollywood-liberal movie is due to some mental defect?

I agree. The claim made was that people were fleeing the state because it was so horrible. The reality is no where close to that statement. The reason low income people or young people low on the corporate ladder leave, as one of our posters pointed out, is because they don't have enough money to live here. Virtually all of them would no doubt love to stay near their families and enjoy the high quality of life but they can't afford it so they go some where they can afford. There is no shame in that but they most certainly are not "fleeing the state" and instead couldn't hack the competition. The market produces winners and losers and they're the losers*.

                    * = There are people who move for family reasons (they're from some where else) and there are people who just want to be some where it snows or what not but that wasn't the original claim ("native born people are fleeing the state") and instead most of the outflow of population are simply people who can't afford it because they just don't make enough money. I'm not sure sending poor people to other states is necessarily a bad thing.

Wow that's cheap. This was the cheapest one I could find with a quick search on Trulia for Philadelphia in my neighborhood. This one's a few blocks away.

Keep it up and you'll persuade to move to Texas.

Yeah but there's no jobs there! Wouldn't you rather live in a major East Coast urban center? You can have this 3 bedroom, 1 bath in the Hunting Park/Nicetown section of Philly for $16,500!

No. You have already persuaded me that there are no jobs in Philly. I think I'll stay where I am.
